US or Canada Bank Account
 

Hello everybody :yar:

Here's one for ya! Lets say, for instance, that I am living in the EU but considering moving to US or Canada to live or even possibly buying a holiday home over there. Can I open a bank account with a US or Canadian bank using my current address in the EU.

If this is possible, would I be able to do it online or would I need to attend one of the branches in order to do it?

You can do Canada online but you would need to send in documentation. Foreign people here would need a Canadian address or North American address. But yes it's possible - some banks do initial opening at the branch only. You would have to call around and find out.

Cheers RSOT - when you say documentation, would that be to confirm my home address and personal details in UK? Just a thought.

Yes - personal details of course but some banks prefer that you have a Canadian living address at least. To prove that you are here - some banks are fairly tight up about people from abroad opening up accounts while no where within reachable distance.
