Can you explain what "rooted" is?
I will be trying some of the tricks soon with my virgin mobile optimus v andriod by lg. As soon as I get my screen replaced, and I will let you guys know if it works...if not i'll be asking you more questions lol

Rooting Android is like Jailbreaking iPhones.

Basically you are able to install completely stock Android experience as it was originally developed by Google, completely open and unlocked.

Any device using Android 2.2 or higher has the personal hotspot feature for free when the device is rooted.

Gotcha, anyone know how to route an android?

It's not necessarily such a simple procedure and not every Android phone has been rooted just yet.

Easiest way for me to root my cricket smart phone was to download "z4root". You can permanently or temp. root it. Then find the program in the Android app market "Barnacle wifi tether", the program is free.

You wont find z4root in the app store, you need to google it, install it on smart phone. The installing process will take about 1-2 minutes. It will restart your phone, when it turns on again it will be "rooted". Then start the Barnacle wifi tether and your done.

Barnacle wifi tether even has a meter on how much mb's you use and a download speed meter.

Not all smart phones with work with it. I am running a Cricket huawei ascend with Android 2.1.

I need STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS lol I am actually not too bad at researching and some techie stuff...however I spent TWO hours looking and searching and trying with no success.
I have Android Virgin Mobile LG OPTIMUS
I want to spoof/change the MAC address for my phone for amazon. I am hearing in some places including here I need to jailbreak the phone first before I can even begin to download any apps I may need for the mac address changing.

I can not find the CORRECT way to do this. If anyone anyone knows how or can help:
1) Jailbreak/Root this particular phone
2) Change/Spoof the Mac address of the device/phone

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I would be soooo appreciative :hail:
