| Giardino | 06-17-2011 07:42 PM | Uhhh....guys? I called them, they said they were closing the account because it raised red flags in their "fraud department"??? What the hell? I just opened this account...
I can't talk to anyone about it because all of their offices are closed for the weekend... http://i.imgur.com/PUaXr.jpg |
| jeffweico | 06-17-2011 07:48 PM | What do you expect will happen when you try to defraud the bank for $999,999,999.00?

That billion dollar thing, I have seen before. Many years ago, when ATM's sere first being installed, I tried to withdraw $50 from an acount that had about $300 or so in it. It declined, but told me my available balance was $999,999,999.99.
I took the receipt into the bank the following Monday. I joked that I wanted to make a withdrawal. After explaining to the police that I was only kidding, the manager told me that the network was down and that the amount was in there as a default balance displayed shen they could not verify the actual account balance. That is why the transaction was declined.
I'm joking about the police part...
My point is that the OP did nothing wrong, it is just a banking glitch. |
| Giardino | 06-17-2011 08:11 PM | Well I talked to another representative and she said that she doesn't know the exact reason behind the account closing, but she said that when this happens it is usually because there was "derogatory" information in my chexsystems (bank account) history when I opened the account which is causing them to terminate the account and any account I open with them.
She asked if there was any sort of situation that could've caused this. Well, right now im getting accounts closed at ally bank because due to my internet being retarded, I accidentally opened up WAYY more than I wanted to and wound up with that 13 accounts that I didn't want to open. So those are still being closed, but I suppose since they all report to the same person/place/corporation, that this could be whats causing my issue? |

Also, closed bank accounts get reported to ChexSystems. So, it probably looks suspicious that you had and closed 13 accounts.
If an accouint is free of monthly fees, leave it open, let it sit. If there are fees, close it, but try to minimize the number of closed accounts. ESPECIALLY when accounts are opened and clsoed in a short period of time.
And my personal rule is no more than 6 accounts at any one bank. We have lots of choices here in the US. Too many accounts at any one bank could cause them to get suspicious. It is better to stay under their radar. |
| Giardino | 06-17-2011 08:29 PM | I see, so now that I have 13+ accounts showing as opened and closed in a short period of time, how long, if at all, do you think it will take for me to be able to successfully open an account anywhere else? |
| Axcend | 06-17-2011 08:52 PM | i think chex systems might be permanent. Walk into a bank with $500-1000 and let them know you want to open an account. They won't say no |
| Alps_a somewhatlegend | 06-17-2011 08:58 PM | Last year I did a massive £30 pp transfer. When I checked my bank account, £3000 was in there.
Yeah I thought, ran to the cashpoint and took out £300 and went shopping. Next day did the same.
The day after that, I tried to withdraw more but it got declined.
I went home, checked my accounts on my pc and they had 'clocked' on.
I rang pp as my pp account was limited. The lady asked what happened. I said if you can check the latest history, I think we both know what happened.
I said sorry about that... she had a chuckle and fixed my pp account - thankfully
Glitches hey :) |

| Giardino | 06-17-2011 10:14 PM | I went ahead and took my chances and opened up 1 e-checking account at BoA and actually opened it up with some funds instead of $0. Says ill get a confirmation notice within 1-2 B-days |
| jeffweico | 06-17-2011 10:30 PM | ChexSystems only keeps information of file for 5 years. |
| Giardino | 06-17-2011 10:31 PM | Ah ok. I called ahead to a BoA rep and explained my situation and she said I should have no problem opening up an account with them |

| koharski | 06-17-2011 10:42 PM | paypal is only a stickler about these sorts of situations because they are often used as a way to move money from fraudulent accounts.
Criminal steals identity of victim, opens many accounts and lines of credit, ads to paypal, goes on spending spree.
So when they see a lot of recent credit checks on chexsystem, they assume that somebody has been trying to open a lot of accounts and won't activate your pp.
A bank shouldn't turn you away if you show up in person, with ID. Money or not. If you tried to open online... that may be another story.
the bank just wants to be able to verify that you are who you say you are. |

| Giardino | 06-22-2011 01:52 PM | Update: Just spoke to Ally Bank who are also closing all of my accounts because the paypal VERIFYBANK deposits (the ones less than $1) were coming in to my accounts under different names (my stealth names)....WTFFFFF
She said I can open up a new account afterwards as long as I do not use it for business transactions nor have deposits coming in under different names.
As far as suntrust, they basically said I was banned from suntrust for the rest of my life... |
| nobody999 | 06-23-2011 02:03 PM | what was the problem with suntrust?
i heard that ally does allow deposits under different name...did that change? |
Elaborate about Ally - they are a solid bank. |

i heard that ally does allow deposits under different name...did that change? | I have no idea, I thought they did too. But heres the thing, I opened up way too many accounts. Granted, there weren't any red flags raised until I asked them to close the extra ones.
This caused them to have to look into my accounts more closely, and then the senior techs started seeing that I had deposits coming in under many different names. I tried explaining to the lady I was talking with who actually had the power to unlock the accounts that I am running an eBay business and that as ridiculuos as it sounds, all of those names are my "business names."
She said regardless of the fact that this looks weird in general, I am not allowed to do "Business transactions" using a "personal checking account." So....yeah. She said I was more than welcome to open up a brand new account once all of my current ones are closed, its just I wouldnt be able to have deposits coming in under different names.
So the new plan is to lay low for a while, and then eventually open up new accounts at Ally and instead of having ebay/paypal names that are vastly different than my own, I will start using name variations/misspellings only. |
