Default Visa's alternative to Greendot

Anyone seen these? I haven't seen em before and I checked em out. They look pretty promising (At least from what I can read on the cardboard)

The cards say they can do the following:
  1. Direct Deposit
  2. Hold funds like a bank
  3. Do ACH Transfers
  4. Basically greendot...

looked at the website, and it requires a ssn (at least if you get it online) I would guess that is the case too if you buy in a store and want to setup ACH, but who knows. let us know how it goes

if the do require ssn...wouldn't this be the same thing as opening a checking account and getting a debit card?

Blame the PATRIOT act. All reloadable credit cards requires SSN now, at least ones with Direct Deposit enabled.

I didn't actually buy them yet. And speaking of the P. Act, doesnt that mean if you bought a prepaid card in the UK you could still be anonymous?
