New windows account- not working?

So I'm doing everything right here. But when I open a new windows account, it's incredibly slow, to the point that it doesn't even work. I'd at least like to be able to use the internet with it. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way to deal with it?

Do you have enough space on your hard drive in terms of virtual memory?

I think we need lot more info to comment on this.

For example, I use a P4 laptop for some stuff - 512 mb ram ha - 20-30 user accounts - I notice that i leave too many windows open in each account, my computer gets bogged down and I get virtual memory low messages.

True. I don't really know the specifics about my computer. But it's a Compaq Presario CQ56. I am pretty sure there is more than enough space.....I have only two user accounts.

Don't know the stats on that comp but 2 user is so light. You have many windows open? Check your hard drive space.

Last night, was getting super slow and checked HD - out of 80 gig HD, only 200 mb were left so deleted some old crap - seems like memory is ok for swapping.

I have 166 GB free.....strange. Not much open either.

Antivirus background programs slowing it down? Malware crapola?

GrannyT 06-28-2011 11:36 AM

That happened to me every time I switched users - Now I log off and log on again - problem solved

Is that the same for you?
:pop2:

I don't know. I'll try.

Are you running windows XP?
It is rather known that WIN os will corrupt after some time and causes everything to slow down, including switching user accounts.

Plus the management of memory in Win XP is not that great. The more accounts you have the slower it'll be.

Perhaps adding more RAM will help, but as people have suggested me... get Win 7 if you can.

I have Windows Vista. I tried what granny said...no luck. I only have two accounts, so maybe it's something else.:pry: My computer is only three months old....

I doubt it. My regular one works. It seems more like it just doesn't work than being slow. But the internet connection is fine.

I have had many experience with compaq desktops and compaq presario laptops/notebooks and I can tell you for sure they get slow after a few months or earlier than that even if you have tons of memory space and ram. I could be wrong and it could just be my hands from typign so much!

EASY FIX!:

1. Save all your important stuff on a usb drive/cd/dvd/or on anything else you might want to use and delete the current user account and open a new user account.

2. Make sure your antivirus/internet security software is not making your computer slow. Norton and mcafee make computers/laptops/netbooks/notebooks super slow!

Good Luck!

Hi. I checked out the specs for your notebook and its good. Benchmarks -

MobileMark 2007: 171
3DMark 2003: 1586

You should be able to make windows user accounts no problem. If you only had it a few months it shouldn't be too cluttered.

All I can suggest is when you create a new windows user account, make it an admin one. Shutdown the computer. Then turn it back on.
On the windows logon, choose the new user to just made. It should say preparing desktop (or similar) and hopefully once its loaded up you should be good to go.

Its a basic thing you can try - it may work you never know - sometimes silly things like that work.

You are gonna have to get this sorted coz its nice to have a few windows users and your notebook is more than capable. I hope someone can fix this for you

That's exactly how I did it.

Maybe I said my question a little incorrectly. It's not exactly slow- it doesn't work at all. But I see what you're saying and I'm probably going to try that...but what if the new account doesn't work? Then I'm screwed.:rant::eek::pry::mad2::shocked::doh:: rant:

I do the same now... It sure does keep things speedy.... Also when creating new user account, deactivate all the little goodies during start-up except for what you really need. Leave all the extras for your main browsing user account.
