Paypal requests SS# or Tax ID #
 

Paypal just asked for ss or tax ID#. Can I "quickly" get a tax Id# and submit that instead. Do you need SS# to apply for Tax ID#? Will Paypal figure out what I am doing being as it is taking me time to get Tax ID# to them? Thanks

You can do this, but of course a tax ID requires a real SSN. Cannnot play games with government.

Did you hit the 20k mark or are they asking for registration purposes?

You can easily get one but it will commit you to paying taxes on your profits and I dont mean just the 20k issue either. ANY profits.

You can file for this online with your real details and you can use it immediately according to the .gov site I did mine on.

According to people on this forum, Paypal CANNOT see the real name on the EIN number. You will have to choose a business name you plan on keeping and that name would probably need to be the new name on your upgraded paypal business account.

Before you do all that though we need to know if it is for the 20K irs reporting issue or just registration/limitation lifting.

Paypal just asked me for mine as well . Although I can still ship and withdraw money to my bank account. I'm only at 14-15k , Ive been keeping a close eye on it. I think im just going to get my EIN and form an llc. Has anyone else decided to just bit the bullet and go legit? =}

Legit is the way to go man. Its really easy to open everything up the right way, build up slow and be patient. The reward is months and months down the road when you have great account, great feedback and steady sales.

thanks for staying with me. My concern is Paypal. Right now they have not done anything.
It's been 4 days since they asked for SS#.
Someone responded with using "legit stealth"... How can stealth really be legit? My true name was kicked off Ebay years ago, Leaving me to not able use my name & SS# again.

I think that what the post by "legit stealth" means is that you are legit with the government for tax purposes but still stealth with Ebay and Paypal. The IRS can not share any taxpayer information. If you get a EIN# from the IRS the only thing that Paypal can do is they will submit your business name and EIN# to the IRS to see if everything matches. It will be a simple yes or no answer. Once the IRS says everything matches to Paypal then they have satisfied the requirement from the government for gathering tax reporting information.

Thanks, I certainly would use correct info for EIN, but can only use "stealth" with ebay/paypal. How could the info possibly match? Or do they just compare new"business name" that I select when applying for EIN? Will Paypal allow me to update my account info with this new business EIN etc from the original personal account that I have now? Can I use same EIN for several stealth accounts.. (I imagine that will link in time) Remember that
Paypal has requested my SS# and I have not responded yet. How long can I go without responding?

No dont use the same EIN for several accounts, that'll get you closed faster.

Just a recommendation, get a po box/ups or something of that effect, use your middle name for your last name. Get a prepaid VCC in your name. Get a d.b.a from your state, file for an EIN under that name.

Open up an eBay business account, then through eBay open up a PayPal account and then after verifying everything upgrade to a business account(after bank deposit etc) and then just have documents ready.

Build up really slow and you'll have a "legit" top rated account after 3-6 months, play it safe and start out buying random things you actually need, do searches for what you will sell, and once it does come time to sell make sure you sell in a very steady pace.

Also, if PayPal has requested SS for a non business account then your probably going down already. If its a business account, just call in and hope you get someone that woke up on the right side of the bed and let them know that you arent comfortable giving your SSN and would prefer to provide your EIN at moments notice. Just be reasonable and dont act suspicious(you shouldn't be doing anything wrong anyways, if you are then you will get whats coming)

I am pretty sure you can use whatever you want. Hell, Paymate or ProPay REQUIRE you to be a PowerSeller to even use their service.

No brand new account just lights right up as a PowerSeller.

Would have to be multiple EIN I presume. It acts just like SSN. Can't have the same one on tons of accounts.

planes - Well there is ways to get more than one. But you have to have an LLC I believe, I'm not too sure. You should just do everything the right way and you shouldnt need another EIN.

Will paypal actually accept an EIN or will they later on require a SSN as well?
