Did eBay ban Google Voice?
 

I've decided to try Google Voice today, and randomly selected a New York number. However, eBay returned the "We are unable to verify this phone number" after entering it, which is the same message they would give you if you attempt to use a banned number, or a number that was already used.

I've seen lots of successful stories of using Google Voice on the forum in the past, and is wondering if anyone else had any experience with it recently.

Sometimes I get the same problem. It's something with the system, Google Voice still

The problem with eBay or Google?

It could have been a banned number, I'm sure the numbers are reused after a google account is closed just like bank numbers are but it hasn't happened to me yet, sometimes I get the technical difficulties error then I just keep retrying the call until it finally goes through after several attempts.

Possible, but bank account numbers are, or at least should not be ever reused. They just keep on incrementing for obvious security and privacy reasons.

Also it could have something to do with you being in Canada, I don't think google voice works internationally, I tried to use it on a UK account and got the same message, now that I remember.

Maybe you are right, perhaps eBay does not allow you to add foreign phone numbers for verification. I remember seeing the same error when using with Skype number some time ago.

@BiN4RY - when you used your NY number, was your IP states-based? IP is huge - just try setting up a US paypal using Canadian IP - INSTANT limitation.

Yes, it is state based. The accounts were month old sleeper Canadian accounts, so ebay regarded as a new account.

That's what the problem was, a US number on a Canadian account, ebay CA. doesn't make international calls for phone verification one of the reasons why I can't make a CA or UK account.

Google voice has not hit Canada right? Excuse me for my laziness but I have not looked at that service for long time.

Google voice works great for me.... Now I only need a phone that accepts 5-6 sim cards and id be set with one phone.

Once you guys verify your number do you keep the number active?

You can have 2 active numbers per phone/sim. I never keep mine active but sometimes add an active number when making large withdrawels from paypal and keep the paypal info on a sticker on the back of my phone.
