existing account has SSN: can it be changed to have EIN
 

Hello All,

when I originally opened up my PayPal account, I signed up by entering in my SSN. I now know I am easily above the 200 transaction and 20k PayPal limit. PayPal has yet to contact me regarding being over the limit. I would rather report my earnings through an EIN rather than my SSN. Does anyone know if it is possible to make this switch? When will PayPal contact me?

To be short, once they have it, they'll ALWAYS have it.

You can try calling them, but at this point, just take the inconvenience rather than
the risk of elimination.

If you're operating under the Personal Premier account, you can upgrade to the business account and put the EIN in there.

I have contacted Paypal about this very issue on another account and YES you can change it with no problems. All they need is to know is what number to send the IRS reporting under.

Just call them and explain you started a business and wanted to use the EIN instead. If they ask to upgrade to a business account just do it. Its no different and since you are a business anyway then just go with it.

As for paypal contacting you about the 20k issue, who knows. There have been people on here saying they will contact you at this and that number but they have no idea. I have reached well over 30k and have not gotten any email about it yet. so who knows? but them.

Thank for the reply. I have upgraded to a business PayPal address actually. Does anyone know where in the PayPal account you can add your EIN? Also,
I am using a friends account which is in his/her name and address. Does it matter if I add an EIN that is not in her name?

When you applied for the EIN you came them a business name right? That would be the same name as the one you gave paypal when you upgraded to a business account. Those 2 have to match or close.
