Same IP, different computer.

Hello everyone, quick question:

Can eBay suspend accounts if there are 2 different user names logged in at the same time, from the same IP?

My sister and I are working from a router so we have the same IP address. Her eBay is fine and she's never had any problems.

I have a stealth with an address thats 70 miles away up and running. If we were to be logged on eBay at the same time with our own user names, but from different computers, will eBay link it just from the IP? Or do they NEED the computers cookies to determine the link?

MichaelW 07-16-2011 03:43 PM

100% Link for sure. Don't do it

Elisek 07-16-2011 04:16 PM

I'm not sure I'll be able to help it. I have 2 sisters, each of them use eBay to buy concert tickets, dvd's etc...
I don't know when they're logging in and out or how many times a day they're doing it.

To change the IP address every time somebody in my house signs in on eBay would mean we have to switch our router off and on a million times. And that will cause so much chaos as we have 5 people using the same connection.

The stupid thing is, my sisters accounts are both linked to all of my old suspended accounts because of the address and phone number. But they've never had any problems and still have active accounts. Is it because they've never sold anything so eBay just aren't paying attention?

It's becuase the AXE has not hit them yet.

It's a known and proven fact that family members have had their accounts lost by way of association .

Do not do this IF you value your new stealth account.

A solution would be to buy a dongle and have your own IP.

Start to think stealth to stay stealth.

Today's word to learn is LINK. Try to do nothing to link accounts :pop2:

I'm already using a dongle but it gives the same IP as everyone else. It picks up the signal from the router that is directly connected to the main computer in my house.
My sisters laptops both have a built in wireless detector, I'm the only one with a dongle. But the IP address is exactly the same on every computer in the house.

If I reboot the router, it changes as it's dynamic, but then we'd have to keep doing that every time one of us wants to sign into eBay. Eventually, eBay would want me to explain why my IP address keeps changing.

All of this only came to my attention because I saw my sister on eBay ordering something and it just made me worry about the IP link. I'm afraid to sign in to my Stealth now, just in case :(

You need a different IP to all of your sisters. You only need it when you log into your Ebay account. Other times you can log into Ebay as a visitor from a different user account to view anything you need to look at.

Complete your business through your email account.

Consider using these to give you a different IP

Thank you so much, I'll look into it. But won't eBay see that suddenly my IP will have changed after over a week of using the one I have right now?

GrannyT 07-16-2011 05:29 PM

My IP changes 20 times a day on 5 different accounts. It is not an issue for EB

Thanks. Sorry to be a pain. They're so bloody annoying!!! :mad2:

Elisek 07-16-2011 05:50 PM

Hey GrannyT,

Just tried one of the dial up options but it failed as my laptop is not directly connected to a phoneline.
My problem is I can't actually have my phone line connected to my laptop as it's connected to our main PC instead. Which is my fathers. And asking to use his computer could create World War 3...

GrannyT 07-16-2011 05:56 PM

Get a double telephone socket adaptor and connect your computer directly to the telephone line. It just means there will be no incoming or outgoing calls while you are using it.

If your house is broadband why is the telephone line connected to a computer?

Ace it up.You are getting answers. Stop the demanding.

It's nearly midnight in the UK. Do you seriously think half of the UK users are sat here waiting to look after you?

I dont think so

Elisek 07-16-2011 06:10 PM

The ADSL Modem lead for the router is connected to the phone line via a splitter.

GrannyT 07-16-2011 06:13 PM

EliseK if you want me to come to your house to sort out your domestic arrangements I will - but it will cost you a lot of money.

I've explained how you can resolve your problem. With respect I cannot spoon feed you and I cannot see inside your house.

I hope you get it sorted OK as I'm off to bed

:bolt:

Elisek 07-16-2011 06:23 PM

I don't mean to upset anyone. At all.
I have Insomnia so I'm always awake and if there's a project that needs doing, the way I see it in my head, I may as well get it sorted now.

I didn't take into consideration how late it actually is for normal human beings, so I apologize

GreenBean 07-16-2011 06:26 PM

I understand, really. When those first things happen that make ebay a royal pain and make the Royal corgis go yapping about the place, we do become unhappy. :pop2:

Been there myself. What's happening with you is nothing we cant work out to fix. Just not at a click of the fingers :)

Wonder if your Dad would consider a 2nd phone line?

Elisek 07-16-2011 06:42 PM

It's the money it'll cost for the installation and line rental that will be the problem. Only 2 out of the 5 people in my family have a stable job right now (touch wood), so money's extremely tight.

I'll look into a way of splitting the phone line. It's really complicated the way its set up already so I may be able to find another way to do it.

I do appreciate all the help, by the way. I really do. :pop2:

You have a cellphone? You could do some kind of tethering via your cellphone if it's not beyond your capability or expense.
