Paying Fees on VERY HIGH international shipping charges
 

I havent really researched this much on ebay but was hoping someone on here knew for sure.

What If I sell a $25 item and the guy from Germany wants it sent Express EMS for $65 shipping. Do I have to pay fees on $90 when I could have sold it to a guy locally in the US and paid fees on only $5 shipping??

IF that is so then this sucks bad. Some people would pay more in fees than what they made in profit total on some items.

:doh: why ship internationally if you have not checked how the fees will go?

That's careless for a start. Deal goes bad, so what happens then? Buyer gets stuck with duty, what happens then.

What sucks is your not doing the correct homework.=}

30% of my sales over the last 13yrs have gone overseas. I dont care what they charge as my profits are well enough to cover it but was curious.

Even if I did take a big loss the Overnight EMS shipping is rare.

This has to affect many people if that is how it is done.

The reason I do it is because most of my competitors will not. I even have a guy that has packages sent to me and he adds them to the stuff he buys from me so I will ship to him in the UK.

Okay GB. what did I do?? Simple question that seems no one else really knows either. lol

Here is what I found.

Final Values Fees will be calculated on the shipping service paid by the buyer, unless the buyer pays for a One-day or International shipping option. If a One-day or International shipping option is selected, the first domestic shipping service offered other than One-day will be used to calculate Final Value Fees. If there are no other domestic shipping services offered, fees will be calculated based on One-day or International shipping service.

That makes sense and is what I figured but wanted to bring it up on the forum since no one has ever addressed it.

Bear in mind there was a policy change as of 6th July. If you have an ebay store, there happens to be a different calculation on fees as well.

Correct me if I am wrong, I thought I remember seeing that if you offer free shipping in the US and charge for Intl, you don't have to pay FVF on shipping..

I looked at my past free-shipping auctions and they have the same FVF as the same auctions that had intl shipping charges included.
