Extremely frustrated.

Hi Guys,

Here's the story. I am having a hell of a time changing my IP.

Here are the details:

-Cable Internet
-Linksys Router

I have tryed the following methods:

-Going through the LINKSYS tutorial

-Ip Config/Release/turning off

-Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) (Mr. josh cable tutorial) (This method I seem to only get the ip to change to another ONE IP, It seems to rotate between two IP address that NEVER SEEM TO GO AWAY

- open up IE, cleared address bar-- typed in my ROUTER ip address, mine was like 192.168.4.1

-New BATCH ".Bat" File to Change IP Address Method

- I have called my interest provider and they told me to call Linksys.... and Linksys was just as useless as my internet provider.

*My internet provided told me my IP address (I guess that the one they control?????? is the one found under CMD/ Ipconfig?.... changes every 3 days......

So who controls (Internet provider or Linksys the "ebay tracked" IP found on IPchicken or IPburger?.

Any idea's on what to do would be great guys.

Do you need your router? Why not direct connect to your modem for awhile?

The router is what most likely holding onto the IP address. I always had problems using router/modem setup. I got so tired of it I ordered a second modem.

aspkin, would this be the way for Mac? Or is it different?

aspkin 03-15-2008 11:44 PM

Some different steps for mac, but it's basically the same.

Have same problem here...using cable modem & Linksys Router. I can't connect directly, my teenage son would go insane...he is connected online through me/router.

Have been investigating a few shareware programs that swear they hide your ip -- surf anonymously. Have tried a few over the last-week...some good...some not.

Have found 1 that works well...have checked ip on whatismyip.com and several others...and it does appear I am somewhere in Kansas City...I am nowhere near Kansas...live in New York.

What do you think? Worth the $29.95 to purchase? It beats msconfig/release, etc. & my son won't throw a fit everytime I unplug us.

Most proxy services tested don't work in the long run.

Have you tried AOL proxy yet? You can use your same internet without changing anything, but use AOL browser to surf anonymously and this one works. Search the forums for AOL and there are tons of topics on this.

Or use dialup for eBay work. You can setup your eBay and Paypal accounts with dialup, go to auctiva.com and setup a token and work from there.

You have many alternatives.

HI, Itza:

Heres what I do.. (I have Comcast + a Linksys Router in 1 room)--

--- get at least 2 modems + 2 Routers, (routers are $49 at walmart- the wrt54g model)- the modems are also cheap..

--put a post it on each pc of equip--A,B,C,D, etc..
NOw:
--I hook up say Router A, to modem C --this equal XXXX i.p.
--Also-- hook up Router B to modem C--this equals XXXXX i,p.
You also have avail- Router A with modem d, Router B-with modem D, etc.
--U see, now while the others are cooling off, and packed away- when ready to use again, their i.p. are reset now...
** This method is fast + a "quick + easy --no pc knowledge required"---which is what fits me best... :))

If you can manually change your routers MAC address, your cable modem will be forced to pull a new IP after restart. Thats how I do it.

That'll work too. I've done that before.

Ive tried this and it doesn't work for me. Unless Im doing it wrong. I log into AOL w/my cable/broadband connection. I get the same IP everytime.

Throb-n-Rod 03-21-2008 10:41 PM

dont log on to it you have to have the software like 9.0 open it up and check your ip again

ebayhateluv 03-21-2008 11:47 PM

HI: Go into aol like this:

a.) if you are using your OWN connection to the Internet-- i.e. broadband--then log in as a GUEST...
b.) If you use dialup--then log in with your aol name..

Throb-n-Rod 03-22-2008 11:49 AM

Why guest I dont do that

aspkin 03-22-2008 02:02 PM

The idea is just to get AOL browser going as guest or a subscriber to AOL. Once you do that, you're connected by proxy.

thelizardking 03-22-2008 02:06 PM

Yeah and I think you have to be a subscriber to use AOL Dial-Up.

Throb-n-Rod 04-01-2008 09:45 PM

Ok I have service with AOL and can log in or use the guest feature is the any advantage to using the guest feature to sign in if you pay for the service is what im asking

aspkin 04-02-2008 10:10 PM

no advantage last I checked...
