PayPal limited for buying low value items

Just thought I would share with you all my recent experiance in the hope of helping someone else avoid this:

I created a stealth account using all the techniques as decribed in the stealth book and other things picked up from the forum

Over the month before planning to start selling I bought 10 low value items to get my yellow star and paid for these with the VCC linked to to PP account

Registered a bank account and confirmed the two deposits so raided the limits to £1900

Sent in passport and bank statement as requested to lift limits on a friday 5th August

Checked this morning and found that the PP account had been limited, usual crap about it being final, no appeal etc... but it also said that I had recieved £1900 into the account which was why it was being limited and could I send in Docs (which had already been sent on the 5th) and I had not recieved a bean into the account as I had listed a couple of low value, low risk items which do not sell

Checked my gmail and found an email stating that my appeal had been denied on the 6th August even though I had not appealed this as I was not aware of it until this morning (the 8th)

Phoned pp a short while ago to dicuss this and told usual generic crap about account being a high risk, parting company, when I pushed him about a reason why my account had gone under a security review he eventually told me that as I had bought a number of low value items (10) in a short space of time (over a month) that my account was high risk and that I could never use PP again

The moral of the story for me is that I will now be spreading my purchases over a longer period of time, that I will just move on to my other back up accounts and that PP are tw*ts!!!!

Are you saying that ALL the funds came from a vcc when you started using the account?

I've a specific reason for the question in view of the rest of your post.

Darn, paypal stink.:boink:

james169 08-08-2011 06:06 AM

Yep all the funds that I paid for the items with came from a VCC, as I say these were all low value items and the total for all of them only came to about £3 but they were varied and things that it could look like someone wanted to buy, ipohne charger cable, usb to mini usb cable etc.

What VCC did you use - EP?

KingRay 08-08-2011 12:38 PM

I am sure the VCC might have been an issue. There is no way they limited it for the sole reason of buying low value items. That just sounds stupid. He either was BSing you or just said it wrong.

Also within a month. 10 item?? thats a joke. People buy that many items a day and dont get that. Something else is going on here.

I would imagine this might be considered buying feedback. Hence the high risk...

I do it too 2-3 items, but never have I done 10 since it made me uneasy, so this only confirms my thought more that buying penny auctions is high risk. Yes, strange but this is paypal and 90% of actions are "high risk"

Thanks for sharing the info. I think it very valuable.

KingRay 08-08-2011 01:29 PM

Yeah maybe if it were penny auctions. I didnt think they were that low though. I am sure that is what did it then. Guess you learned a lesson right?

GreenBean 08-08-2011 06:16 PM

But it's PAYPAL that stung the OP. Not ebay. :spy:

Paypal will always suck until new friendlier common sense staff arrive!

I think that PP rep was lying to you and there is some other issue at hand.

None of my accounts have issues buying dozens of cheap items every month.

jbluntz 08-09-2011 02:38 AM

Same here, been doing it ever since I started still haven't had any problems buying under a dollar items and that's usually about 10 at a time in the same day not in a month.

EXACTLY. I did around 200-250 in a month once for an account, and they still love me. Obviously not the first 30 days of life on the account though haha.

james169 08-09-2011 04:43 AM

Yes the VCC was EP, I did think that I may have been stung for feedback manipulation but the EB account that it was linked to it still active and has no restrictions although to all intents and purposes it is dead as it is regisitered with same details as the PP account that they threw me off of.

I have done it on other accounts that have had a few negative feedbacks to push the % up and have bought around 40 items at a time in a day all penny auctions for stuff like DS pens and then done it again 10 days later to continue pushing the feedback score up with no problems

I think it may be because they had a manual look at the account as I had submitted docs, I know the docs were ok and looked as they should do but maybe once they looked and saw all the payments as coming from a CC, don't know if they can tell if this is EP or not but maybe this raised flags as when I have done it from others accounts where the funding source has come directly from the bank account attached to it there has not been a problem with regards to that

jbluntz 08-09-2011 05:11 AM

Anytime I buy for feedback I usually just send like $20 from another paypal so payments always come straight from paypal.

jblunts, what do you say the payment if for when sending to new p ay pal, service or something

suppose it could be for anything

mercurial333 08-09-2011 07:49 PM

This account I have right now has almost 150 feedback, in 30 days.

95% is buying feedback. Bought so much stuff from china for the whole family. Even cheaper than dollar store.

I guess you're talking about what I put in the note section in paypal? usually nothing just mark services and click send, you can make up whatever you want though and it doesn't need to be marked services either, it can be whatever you want it to be, whatever options they have in paypal.

^^^thought so JB,cheers
