how to avoid getting taxed when ship from oversea?

i sometimes have customers from UK and I ship from oversea.

the problem is everytime they'll get taxed a certain amount by Fedex.

is there any way to prevent this?

please advise. thank you

There is no way to stop it, unless you list it as a ''gift'' in which i don't suggest.

Every item that comes through UK customs is charged a %20 tax on top of worth !

thanks for ur reply.

i've seen some people escaping tax which i'm not sure how they do it.

anyway, why won't you write gift?

I have purchased from USA to UK in past and have had to pay money to parcel force (delivery company) before they gave me my items (personal things for home cleaning).

The seller sent not as a gift and I had to pay.

Everytime I send from UK abroad, I send as gift and have no probs.

I have had 1 or 2 items come from China and in their listing, they stated 'sent as a gift' and I did not have to pay extra.

Dont know how useful my post is, but I thought I would mention what happened to me and it aint happening again! -£55 extra I had to pay :mad2:

Sent one item to canada as gift and they had to pay, they were not happy as apparently if I had not selected gift then they would not have had to pay.

So does not always work

Maybe it depends on what you are shipping and the value.

My items I send abroad are mostly books worth less than £5. On the declaration form, I tick gift and put value at zero. I then send via royalmail and put in postbox.

I have been doing this for quite a while now and have never had customers pay extra.

Now I have said that I bet I get a customer complaining tomorrow!

We do ebay/paypal problems.
Not give advice on avoiding duties on goods that you are selling for profit in the 1st case. :)
