PayPal Account Name mismatch
 

Three months ago registered a PP account with name Michael Brown but real name is Justin Brown; also provided PP with SSN for Justin Brown; now PP sent me email saying I cannot change my name without giving them docs to support the change and they are reviewing the name difference and probably will limit my account even though everything else is confirmed.
What should I do now to avoid limitation?

After you do that you should really read up on the stealth book and how to deal with stealth accounts properly. You started with the absolute worst scenario for stealth

I had long story of using PP and all my personal details are perm locked.
Last year I set up a PP account with all !@@#$ information in it and started selling. Until July I had been no issue and my ebay is a top rated seller. Now as I was approaching 200/20000, trouble started. PP sent me email asking for an tax IDand obviously I had none for this account. So I willl PP close it.
Now I need a new PP for my eBay account; and I need it for a while. Strealth PP only get you so far and you restart, again, again......

I used a realtive's info to set up this PP, only the first name is different.

Now looks like PP verified SSN against name and found error in name.

What will they do now? Has anyone met this before? As I recall, a few years back, it did not matter what names you used; now they check more closely; I doubt the Stealth Guide covers this topic.

Will PP limit my account? Or they will change the account to the legal name?

Talk about a comedy of errors.

Firstly, the relative's ID and your SSN was a risk. That's doomed. (sorry).

Now, you're pfaffing about with paypal because names do not match up.

You could consider getting an EIN and give that to paypal. You're in a spot because paypal tend to dislike small things like wrong names BIG TIME.:doh:

Pretty sloppy but the forum is good for stealth. Time to start new if you are not able to provide the correct docs. All the best.

No need to provide SS to pp unless you need to.

Start fresh because this one is a goner.

Look into what GB stated, the EIN on your new account you are either going to make or buy from one of our sellers here.

And never ever use a family or friends info, you will lose a family member or a friend real quick.

Since PP's main goal in limiting an account is to get an SSN, this account has an SSN already (with only first name mismatch), plus associated eBay account is pefect, if they limit, what do they hope to get? This is one of the reasons I put relative's SSN there.

You guys all do know that you can easily do stealth accounts with EIN in your real information right.

There is some reason out there that everyone seems to think they have to toss an account that hits 20k and start over. Its easy to do and any reason other wise would be to not report.

All say to spread your sales and that is good. BUT you still have to cover your taxes on all. I have asked before why cant you save your accounts and post the EIN and you guys all say "because I am stealth"

So am I and I do hit 20k on all accounts now. IF you just pay attention and do some experimenting you will see how simple it can be and be fully stealth from EB PP and legit with the IRS.

IF you still say that wont work they we all know what your real intentions are.

But KingRay how do you add an EIN to a bunch of stealth info. What has to match when Paypaldoes their checks? I also sent you a pm.

^^^I'm not 100% sure, but for your ein you can use your real info, because paypal doesn't check the address or name behind it only the registered business name.

If pp does not check EIN background info, what's to prevent someone from using any ole EIN?

Good question. I'd like to know this too. Can they at least make cursory checks and ensure that the business name is registered to the EIN, etc?

Your business name must match the business name on paypal, your bank, etc.

You must use your real name and SSN. If down the line paypal checks those things then yes you will not be able to do it any more. AS of now though it seems they do not see the real name on it. Just the Business name

also you must match the business start date and address to the IRS in case paypal checks those as well.

Once again though, People with these simple of questions for EIN posting should consult an attourney on how to set up a real business plan other tahn list and sell items on ebay. There is more to it than that when you decide to be a business.

Plus as also said before. You have to set up estimated tax payments from january. If you start now you will he liable for a ton of taxes in just a few months. This year is nearly over. You need to start paying quarterly taxes in Jan or so.

@KingRay, forgive my ignorance ha since I really have no working knowledge of EINs (with no recent plan to use any given my geographic location) but if a person is assigned one EIN and that's all - how would you go about different stealth accounts trying to use this same EIN?

And no, I have not read all the posts on this forum about EIN...

You cannot use the same SSN or EIN on more than one account. The only way to have more than one EIN is to have more than one business. IN that case you must make very well sure you keep things separate. the only reason I have more than one is due to being in partnerships with others and LLC on one.

My taxes are a mess to figure without professional help.

I hate that time of year, not just because of the money. the stress.

the EIN or SSN is really only effective on stealth with 1 account or so.

YOu guys that are dividing things up with tons of accounts, the EIN is worthless for you.

I figured that - thanks KingRay. Works a bit different up here for business registration - system in this particular province would not work for pp and, thankfully, is not brought up.
