Question about making your 1st listing work

This may sound like a stupid question but I will go ahead and ask.
In order to sell on eBay, do you have to confirm your identity by phone the first time you sell? Or if you link your PayPal account to your eBay it won't be necessary?

Thank you in advance!

if you are using valid name(matching with) valid address and telephone number you should be ok...if verify your identity comes after you make your listing and you click on listing, then there is something wrong with your listing ( example: you did not write anything in the description section)..eb made some changes since this week against sellers who do not write anything in the item description section.

I am sorry to inform you but my info is all matching up. And my eBay listing has description. Yet it is giving me 3 options when I try to list. It is asking me something like that: How are you going to pay your eBay fees? and it gives me 3 options: Paypal, Creditcard and Bank account. When I click by Paypal it is asking me to verify by phone, if I click by creditcard it is asking me to enter the credit card number, exp etc ...

Well, then we have to go deeper...which telephone number are you using...skype? or similar?

It was real land line number. I always use real address that I find in white pages and there is always a phone number attached with it. I think I will have to buy VCC from someone here to verify. When I tried to enter my Vanilla ebay said i could not use gift cards.

Then they came with something new ..I am facing the same problem, I am doing new accounts now...if i will get anything new i will keep you posted

did you try to check if the telephone number rings, it might be wrong one or disconnected!!

I never actually tried lol! Good idea though! I think I will try to purchase a new VCC from here and see it that works. If not I might have to get some forwarding number.

Since November (more or less), it is preferable to have

matching address
matching phone THAT is confirmed as working B4 making a listing.(area code)

So the older way of create account, list & hope to bypass the bots is slowly going.
Now accounts need to match a not yet fully defined set of flags put their by ebay.

ebay is not allowing accounts to work unless there is a satisfactory source of 'funds'.... make of that what you want.

As of today, it's not unreasonable to work to have everything matching, verified, confirmed then list.:juggle:

You have to match your phone to a address? How do you do this with google voice? I always make sure the area code match.

rsot 09-02-2011 12:36 PM

From my experience, area code is enough - could be the phone number has already been used.

stanislav 09-02-2011 01:35 PM

So would it be fine if I just use VCC instead of the phone ?

EGYfromhell 09-02-2011 02:47 PM

no , you have to do both; telephone and vcc
