| | | incniu | 09-20-2011 02:53 PM | How to dial up for internet? Do I need to open home phone service first?
Now I just have DSL and CABLE for internet.. I bet dial up is best for me.
Thanks |
| AyeDGAF | 09-20-2011 02:57 PM | dial up is the best! you need a phone service, my setup right now is At&t $25 per month unlimited calling nationwide and $7.99 per month for Juno Dial up. |
You do need home phone service - unless there are ways to connect your computer to your cell phone for dial-up (don't know if that is doable though). I use home service. |
| incniu | 09-20-2011 04:40 PM | do new laptops still come with internal dialup modems?
What is the cheapest home phone service in NYC, for dial up purpose? |

| incniu | 09-20-2011 06:36 PM | Which dialup company is best for NYC? |
| Recherché | 09-20-2011 10:11 PM | Dial-up is the way to go! That is of course for stealth for amazon and ebay. Terrible for anything else though as we all know, is much too slow. |

| boszika | 09-22-2011 12:29 PM | Metconnect is free dialup in NY. At least last year it was. You still need a phone service at home. |

| BiN4RY | 09-23-2011 12:07 AM | Hope you don't mind the dreaded 5kb/s peak downloading speed |
| Road-Kill | 09-23-2011 01:00 AM | I like AOL dial-up.
You can set-up 7 different e-mail accounts without having to fill out applications. You can also look at all 7 mail boxes at the same time and don't have to mess with mail forwarding.
That and not having to worry about IP's are the nice features. The slow speed is real annoying. but if you open a bunch of windows you can read one of them while the other ones are loading. |
| incniu | 09-26-2011 12:10 AM | Thanks for sharing Metconnect. It is pretty good.
Are all dialup the same speed? Always get different IPs? Quote:

Also aim for a nice time of day when not too busy. |
| Giardino | 09-27-2011 01:37 PM | So, what if I do not have phone service in my house, but I do have phone jacks around. Can I use those for things like netzero? |
ONLY if you have home phone service enabled 'Dino - those jacks are useless otherwise - the line is dead with no signal. |
| UnderBites08 | 09-27-2011 07:56 PM | Just tether your phone. Its faster |
| Gangster878 | 09-27-2011 09:59 PM | :pry:Dial Up Is Slow As Hell :pry: :good: |

| jbluntz | 09-28-2011 01:10 AM | Anyone try getting dialup using magic jack? I'm thinking about trying that out, that would make a good backup internet source if it worked, it'd be almost like wireless dial-up. |
| Recherché | 09-28-2011 12:55 PM | Majic Jack is not compatible with dial-up. Iread on their website it is much too slow to be used. It would be great if it did. |

| Giardino | 09-29-2011 02:55 PM | Well, an alternative is always verizon 4g LTE since I am in a highly populated metropolitan area that supports it :D : D:D |
| Gangster878 | 10-01-2011 02:45 PM | You Can Get 1 Free Google It But It Is Slow As Hell  |
| incniu | 10-02-2011 12:48 AM | Is cell phone tethering working for managing multiple amazon accounts?
