Is dropshipping allowed on ebay

I keep reading different things and now I'm confused is or int it allowed?

GrannyT 10-03-2011 01:30 PM

They don't like it - they say the item should be in your possession before you list it

In practise provided you never have any problems they will leave you alone.

First bad experience you can expect the whole works

They know most of the dropshippers, the T shirts, the dvds, the games and it's a bit like the Army used to be about gay people - Don't tell and we wont yell

But as a business model it is not sustainable because of the bad feedback problem

I looked at it as a way to build feedback for nothing - and then I walked away.

It's up to you - do you feel lucky????

mike017 10-03-2011 01:32 PM

I don't like the idea of basing my business and feedback on the hand of another seller. Especially if something happen, it will come back bite you HARD in the butt

GTB 10-03-2011 01:32 PM

eb ay want you to be in possession of whatever item's you are listing

you could drop-ship and get away with it

however, drop-shipping from China is a bad idea

1) It takes way too long for items to get to the customer.

2) Chinese suppliers only want your money, they are not too bothered about what condition the items reach your customers in.

3) Plenty of people experience problems when receiving money from sales and then sending it to a Chinese supplier

4) Customs can charge the recipient tax on the items, which they will not be very happy about

5) There will be more good reasons why you should not but i cant hear myself think at the moment:doh:

It's not a good plan, dropshipping from a local company could be workable but from China,Hong Kong or Timbuktu is just not worth the hassle

If anything, buy the goods and then sell them,it will work out cheaper in the end too

stevebills 10-03-2011 03:34 PM

I dropped shipped about 4 years ago on eBay and it was a nightmare I got banned on PayPal and then eBay and I was just making light conversation on here I don't really intend doing it again unless I could make a quick buck like last time before the bans arrive lol :amen:

Gman91189 10-03-2011 04:38 PM

When i first started doing ebay, i really thought Dropshipping was the way to go..but i've read soo many horror stories about it.. its not worth it.. i mean now adays you might as well buy in wholesale..(if available)
then just ship it from your house..
i mean yea you gotta spend your gas and money for shipping out the items.. but in return.. you don thave to worry about bad feedback because your dropshipper took 1 day too long to ship the item..
I feel if i got BAD feedback, it was because of my fuk up not no1 elses..in a way its a pride thing..makes you feel in control also.. arrange items the way you want.. and when is it supposed to be shipped at wat time etc... trust me.. might seem hard in the beginning... but its alot better
I know how much supply i have of what, when i need to order what

jeffweico 10-03-2011 09:50 PM

eBay has conflicting rules. Technically, they say it is allowed. But they don't like it in practice.

If you are going to do this,. I would only do it with a source in your country.

Also, make sure that your source is **THE** source and not a middleman. Many websites exist that know the true wholesale source, add a few dollars to each item and then take drop-shipping orders. Those are a NIGHTMARE. Imagine having an angry customer and having to check with YOUR supplier who then has to check with HIS supplier. Two days later you find out the item was out of stock and never shipped. It happens all the time. It is a VERY FAST way to lose an account.

UnderBites08 10-03-2011 10:34 PM

Yeah I only drop ship on turn a burn accounts when i need some money..I sold about 30 nikes a Jordan's in about 3 days on Ebay drop shipped them before they froze the account. This was 5 years ago though. I made about 1,000 dollars quick. waited the 180 days withdrew the money. Must I say All customers where happy. I think turn and burn account are a thing of the past though....

The far distant past!!!:D

You can get away with it to an extent, they don't like it though. At the end of the day you are putting your business in someone else's hands. I guess it depends on where you are drop shipping the items from.

If you are using a UK drop shipper then I can't see many problems. However, drop shipping from China to the UK is asking for trouble. If you can manage it well done.

I've only done it once and it resulted in disaster and the money I made is nothing compared to how much I make doing it myself.

GreenBean 10-04-2011 07:45 AM

dropshipping is the classic ebay double standard way of selling.

So long as there is no problem, ebay go with the flow of the fees.

First hint of troubles and the ax falls.

Such a fair, equitable company.

Just like paypal bah.

dropshipping is like dominoes going badly

planes 10-08-2011 11:26 PM

Make sure to list item location as the location item will be shipped from. If you live in NYC and shipping from Asia people get real pissed when it takes 15 days to get. But if you list item location as Asia they are more pliable.

yellow0102 10-09-2011 12:32 PM

I dropship 95% of the things i sell... The key is to make sure that your supplier SHIPS FAST! Before i start using a new dropshipper, i always place multiple "test orders" to make sure they ship in a timely manner.

This has never failed for me

GTB 10-09-2011 12:35 PM

^^^yeah good advice mate

always check to see if the service they promise is actually happening!

but, it is still better to have full control

MichaelW 10-09-2011 11:11 PM

I do drop ship on both e bay and a mazon. But only do with some items from the seller I know they always ship item out same day. I have bought ton of stuffs from this guy and he always ship out same day and never ship with invoice or receipt

FandangoKango 10-10-2011 01:06 AM

You can dropshop somethings and some other things don't dropship! You must research.

jbluntz 10-10-2011 01:20 AM

I don't know how ebay is supposed to know that you're dropshipping anyway, unless the customer reported the package coming from another location but that's still not proof that you're dropshipping, you could just be on vacation or something. For ebay to know you're dropshipping you would have to put something like this in you auction "Hey ebay, look at me, I'm drop shipping" lol.

GTB 10-11-2011 10:20 AM

good point

if you are d'shipping locally

if its from china though they know,uk seller,⊗⊗⊗⊗ goods, long shipping time

stands out like a sore thumb

jbluntz 10-11-2011 10:33 AM

I used to dropship from china, I put my location in the UK, you can change location to whatever you want, still never recieved any message from anyone telling me I was dropshipping.

GTB 10-11-2011 10:36 AM

it still sticks out like a sore thumb

if i can see it a mile off i`m sure ebay can too

if the service is good and no problems arise then your nice but as soon as the first issue arises then i can see it been like a snowball effect

how long ago did you operate these d'shipping account bluntz

jbluntz 10-11-2011 10:42 AM

It was about a year ago, I got accused of being a china seller but never got accused of dropshipping, even though some people complained about shipping time. It's not much different than china sellers that run US accounts with a vpn.

GTB 10-11-2011 10:48 AM

true

so it worked out pretty well for you then

suppose if you state a realistic shipping time and the goods are AAA;) then it shouldn't be too much of an issue

still though if eb ay seen you was d'shipping from china, selling items/and then paying for them with that money they are not gonna like it one bit

jbluntz 10-11-2011 11:00 AM

It worked ok, not as much profit, I prefer to have the stuff myself and ship faster. Ebay still can't see if you're dropshipping, you could have moved to china for all they know and no you don't use the same account to pay, if you did then paypal would know you're dropshipping ebay still wouldn't, your paypal would be limited by then.

GTB 10-11-2011 11:12 AM

the moral of the story is

if you know what your doin then it can work

but like you said it's better to have the items n your possession to ship faster, make more money and feel great when the good feedback rolls in:)

I feel even better when i get good feedback from dropshipping. LOL

Seriously though, if you know what you are doing and know how to do it, it can be a very easy way to make lots of $$$ ;)

If all your buyers were happy... so no issues from buyers...
why and how did you get banned?

Callidus 04-27-2012 04:38 PM

I mean if you want to make a quick buck start dropshipping DR dr e beat s headphones you will make a quick buck and have a VERY HEALTHY LIMITATION on your hands that usually will stay there for time! (sorry for the sarcasm)

NO BUY THE STOCK, AND SHIP YOURSELF

They think that these days, eBay burns you before you even get to turn!

I'm sure people can still turn and burn today.
So what's your strategy? :boink:
