Bad selling practice notice on ebay...?

Attention Sellers:

A listing may not include statements that discourage bidding activity.

For example, you cannot say things like:

“Don’t bid if you do not agree with my terms”

This kind of information is unprofessional and may discourage good buying activity on your item.

Please edit your listing, making sure there's no mention of these words or something similar. If there is, you won't be able to list your item. This could also negatively impact your ability to participate in the Top-rated seller program.

So this is the first time I see this. Is this because some wording is in my ebay description?

Was this in an email to you, or an an information screen when you tried to list?

It was an information screen before clicking submit listing. I went back and edit where I had put don't bid if your not serious and it went away. I guess it must have a tracking method of knowing if your putting don't bid in the listing.

Yes the bots pickup certain words and it gives out a warning before you finish the listing.

I was selling an item called "5 stars" and got a similar message regarding feedback tho :)

Little notes and disclaimers wont help anyway.

The kind of people that cause problems dont read the ads anyway. So the disclaimers go to waste and are not effective. Used to be maybe 6 years ago. Now they just make the seller look difficult to the good buyers. The only ones that actually read the ad.

You can put whatever you want in there and it doesnt make it binding. Still have to do what eBay says. May as well put "if you are not wearing yellow rubber boots when purchasing returns are not valid". Wont help.

I have to say that I kind of agree with eBay on this one. Pod is right, the idiots don't read the descriptions anyways, so all this type of stuff does is to discourage good buyers from purchasing.

Back in the day when eBay was an auction site, my big problem was with people who would bid and then never send a check. Now that issue is not such a big deal anymore since everyone mostly uses Buy It Now. So where I used to ask people not to bid unless they were actually going to follow through, I got rid of all that language awhile ago.

I always offer a 30 day return policy on everything I sell. My replacement rate runs at about 1%. Ry return rate is under 1/2 of 1%. But most of my items are lower value, under $25.
