iPhone, eBay and you! Some great info !
 

Yes, I may be a grasshopper in these forums but have got some great info that may work for your advantage!

Been looking into the case with eBay and your iPhone

Here are a few facts:
It is near impossible to be tracked by eBay when you are on a 3G connection. This is because your IP is entirely dynamic, and a very quick changing dynamic.
There was a lot of talk about apple and Ebay sharing info. They DO NOT! Apple are very strict with user confidentiality and will not give your info to anyone.

Provided you don't go through an app you can open an Ebay account through your phone without any trace using stealth methods. So atm this is great news for me as my ISP is totally static . Period.
Still go through the precautionaries of deleting cookies etc.

Also for the noobies like me who have not changed their IP connection at home yet. Make sure you delete from your i the wifi connection to your house before doing this.

Also: (and this is the greatest)

Guys that are on iOS 5.0 or higher ,you can use your i as a "hotspot" for tethering.
You can very easily connect your laptop to your i through hotspot and enjoy the ever changing dynamic IP. This does not (at the moment) have any connection to your MAC address either. ***..totally going to a great coffee shop to make my stealth***

(once the jailbreak comes out there'll be some great info I can share!)

Things to remember;

Do NOT use the APP when creating the account. EBay does leave traces of itself even once the app is deleted. If you really feel the need to use the app. Restore your phone before doing so. But better you don't.

Remove your wifi connection to your house!

Hope this has been some help to everyone. I don't only want to be asking Noob questions on here but also contributing with things I know.

This thread is kind of misleading........

First you will have to use a different browser other then Safari because it will show that it's on a iphone ....use opera or some other browser and change user agent to IE or FF

2nd you don't need to be on iOS 5 to use the hotspot you can use mywi or pdanet or even tetherme to use the hotspot feature

There is a jailbreak for iOS 5 but it's not a untethered jb

Ok I said for noobs yeh.
Your MAC address on your lappy on 5.0 isn't compromised. Hence the reason I said ios5 hotspot. Previous versions were much easier hacked and info was easily transferred.
Also the phones mac address cannot be easily tracked at all becaus it's generally not transmitted over the Internet.

It shows it's on an iPhone but apart from that there's nothing that can be traced back to you including your MAC address.

And have you attempted to jailbreak using the semi tethered and tethered. it's totally awful that's why I didn't mention it. :amen:

So? My cellphone ISP only changes the last digit of the last set of octets in an IP address, I can only have up to 10 different addreses.

Doesn't mean they can't track you by device specific info, such as UUID.
I know Apple removed the function where Apps can track by UUID, it doesn't mean they cannot do it on platforms such as Android. It also doesn't mean they can't piece together a "phone signature" based on other information they can obtain, similar to how browser fingerprint works.

The whole reason to not use the app is because most people do. Ebay does not work the same way when it is opened as an app instead of the full site !

You know all I did was provided some helpfull info to noobs. Here we go turning into a competition about who knows more about what. It really isn't all that difficult.

I didn't understand a single sentence you said in this post.
If you can't take corrections and criticisms properly and maturely then you really shouldn't be posting. I'm an IT technician as well as a hobbist programmer, I know what I'm talking about.
It doesn't matter if you access ebay or via the app, they can track you and does not make you any safer than accessing from your PC.

So i shouldnt use the ebay app?

So what your saying is..
If you get suspended on eBay, and are unable to change ur ip from static. And need to open a new account but haven't dealt with your home Internet yet.
It's not safer to use your iPhones hotspot to open an account via your computer.
What are you talking about.
