DIdn't pass 20k/200 and they are block dec 28th

Ebay is going to block the account if the info isn't provided by december 28th.. the account isn't even past the thresholds... so bogus

RE: Ebay requesting tax id/ssn on paypal by dec 28th

GreenBean 12-24-2011 06:07 PM

Been several reports of ebay doing this to other users. Started in November:juggle:

What category are your items?

What did you mean by 'bogus'?

That they dared to ask even though you were not near the threshold?

seanws30 12-24-2011 08:38 PM

how close to the limits are you?

HurricaneHuntr 12-25-2011 12:09 AM

Within 3-4k of the limit right now, i don't know the exacts, the message on logging in gives a december 28th date, the other account i have, well 1 of my others has the same message but says "MAY" block

drosenseo 12-25-2011 01:27 AM

i guess i got lucky, i was within $1500 of the 20k limit.. i got the email, the message also shows up in the paypal acct at the top of the homepage... but no other issues. vacation is near... :amen:

seanws30 12-25-2011 09:24 AM

how many transactions tho?

drosenseo 12-25-2011 04:57 PM

sean, if you are asking me... i had 201 transactions within the past 60 days( plus a few odds and ends from earlier in the year, probbaly 20 more from earlier in teh year building it up, etc)... but i did refund like 10 people, so i guess that would make it 191. even though i have not yet "canceled" the transaction on ebay to get final value fees back. probably i am not going to bother...

I got hit with this way back at 13k in sales months ago on an account.

Vadim 12-27-2011 04:34 AM

This is not good..

They aren't even required by the IRS to get anything and they do anyways? eBay does not handle the money anyways. I don't see why this is happening. But scary none the less.

im just waiting it out to see what happens jan 1

QUESTION: Does shipping & handling count toward the $20K? My typical item goes for $11 but with $6 to ship domestic or $11 internationally (odd-sized). So the total before PayPal fees might be $17 a pop. I've been sorta assuming they count the total revenue and am still under $20K maybe by $3-4K.

seanws30 12-27-2011 10:20 PM

20k in funds received. doesnt matter what its for.

LoopHole 12-28-2011 04:46 PM

Just got hit with this too. Account had about 12k in sales with 195 transactions. I guess i pushed it a little too far. But the message i got from them states to provide tax ID. It does not say anything about account being blocked or anything like that. Hopefully i can keep selling on it.

Sandy D 12-28-2011 06:54 PM

I posted a couple months ago that I got hit at 13k and the reason I posted it was to help anyone be prepared for this.

Everyone needs to have a plan in place for next year.

Mine is run tons of accounts up to 10-12 k and shut it down and move onto more accounts.

Not running tons of accounts like many here do has limited me somewhat but time constraints also keep me from running more accounts like I would love to do.

Also preparing for my first Amazon account hoping I can do as well on Amazon as I do on ebay.

My goal is to get "tons" of accounts up and running, 25 fb and 90 days for next year.

jamblix 12-28-2011 08:48 PM

For all of you getting your accounts getting hit with the limits how much were you selling per month? Did anyone go over $3k?

I have a good amount of accounts around $5k of the limits and none of them have been hit with this yet, although I stay under $2k a month in sales for all accounts. I was thinking maybe your monthly sales goes into effect as well for example if you had $3k in sales for a month eB would think you're making $36k a year and therefore ask you to provide the info.

Since ebay AND paypal are the same company, did it not occur to you that they might just work together as regards fulfilling IRS requirements?

Please do not tell me you were so naive as to think ebay would do nothing. :juggle:

As paypal's offsider they were obliged to push sellers into supplying wanted info.

I believe someone here posted the information required by the IRS of ebay and pp to provide them anyone who has xxx sales in a year. It was ebay that added the 200 items sold.

The IRS puts requirements on them and they only covered their butts by making sure that if anyone appears to be heading towards the numbers they would have the info ready to report.

You dont see why this is happening?

Congress is spending - wasting money like drunken sailors these days and the internet is an easy way to find a way to start collecting some more revenues.

This has been talked about for years collecting tax on internet sales.

ebay has asked some sellers to supply info pertaining to the 2012 IRS tax requirements.

Such a request has amazed some users.

Short reply and indicates your need to do lotsa reading to get the overall picture :yar:
