Switched from At&t dsl to comcast cable confused about ip
 

Hello guys I am very confused.
I read some of the threads and I dont know if I should get a router or what.

it was so much easier for me to change my ip with dsl but anyways we are with comcast now.

The techs acted like they didnt know anything about changing the ip when i called.

I have a stealth account on one of my user accounts im afraid to log back in since my other user account now shares the same ip.

I was trying to change the ip on my stealth account before logging in so i wont get linked. Im confused how do I change ip with comcast cable modem with no router?

get u a linksys router and goto youtube type in how to clone a mac address on a linksys router and watch the vid its very eazy and u get a new ip everytime :)

Been a user here since 2010 and you demand a response within 20 minutes? Be fair.

Comcast is a very difficult beast. Pity you had to use it.

Greenbean give me a break i looked thru all those posts most of the info in those posts the posters were more confused than i was. It was a bunch of run arounds, Because of the hostility on this forum i always ALWAYS check the search button before asking a question thats just common sense.

I have comcast and yeah I use a netgear router and its extremely simple and I learned it from here/ the stealth guide you just have to read and keep reading not everything is handed out

For your info I have the stealth guide and might of fact get off my thread with your negativity its funny how you people can post when you got something smart to say

That's understandable.

But within the space of a very short time on a FRIDAY NIGHT USA time you made posts requesting immediate help. Few users are sat at their monitor waiting for you.

Your post was inconclusive. If you had tried something along the lines of

you could have been further ahead.

We do try to avoid flaming here.

All I can add is that comcast has a long lease of an IP. It may take 24 hours to change if left switched off. As for talking to their support staff, ay as well phone paypal. Their service is appalling.

Try DBK's suggestion of a router. But be careful of your choice. Even routers are temperamental. :peace:

I got stuck on this as well when I used comcast and it only changes with a router. Once you have a rotuer log into the ip address of the router. The manual that comes with the router has the default ip address and change any 2 numbers of the mac address and booyah!

Wish it was like att with no router, but doesn't work that way.

If you read my first post there was no hostility or urgency involved you are highly mistaken the only time I got hostile was when people commented on my thread only to tell me i should read the stealth guide or other posts like I hadnt already did that. So I dont know what you are talking about if you read my first post i did say I had read other posts and I still was confused maybe you are mad because I posted in the chatbox. It wasnt until after I posted in the chatbox that i read the small print that it was for small talk but please dont dare make it seem like i was being rude and wanted urgent replies that is so not my personality.
