Default Paypal limited asks for SSN

A buyer opened a dispute. I guess that triggered a review on one account.

First they asked for invoices which I provided quickly, and now for photo id and ssn.

Called in and asked the agent whats up with the SSN request, agent said he can't do anything about it.

Guess this is one is gone then?

What if one doesn't and can't have a SSN?
It's very normal that someone stays in the US legally but without a SSN. Like international students, their dependents, and dependents of immigrant workers. Can't they sell in Ebay if they sell less than 20k?

That's a different issue.

Non US-citizens have other types of ID that paypal might accept.

Anything like that is on a case by case basis

No, not necessarily.

SSN is one requirement. If he has an LLC or EIN he could supply that.

Krap.

EIN is as legal as the SSN.

paypal are playing hard ball saying this.....

Nasty trick.

Do I gather this has happened since December 15 or after?

I Hate to say it, but Truthfully it has been like this for a While,,I Started a Paypal Business account complete with EIN MANY years ago, about 3 years ago they Limited the account right after the FIRST Dispute that was EVER filed against me was opened, this even after using the account without issue for a few years,,at any rate one of the things they wanted was my SSN,,,I also argued (and Lost), in the end I had to come up with a SSN

Good topic.. So if there is no way around the SSN, can you at least withdraw the funds after 180 days?

The "professional buyers" are doing this on purpose knowing they can 1. get something for nothing 2. take your account down or have it looked at

Do not fool yourself, I seldom get a dispute but the last idiot buyer who gave me issues I refunded and kissed her little butt then sent a message to paypal and ebay that I need to be investigated.

Well they did, they investigated and asked for everything under the sun. I provided it and the idiot buyer got a nice little nasty note from me since she sent me copies of her letters to both pp and eb.

Anymore I love to kick these crappy buyers right to the curb where they belong.

She was trying to take the account down and I beat her at her own little game by providing all the info they need.

I love winning and I love defeating buyers who believe they can just slap us around and get away with it.

Be careful with disputes as buyers know it draws attention and manual reviews.

If they ask for this info and you cannot provide it or an EIN then time to move on.

+1 for the A team.

So if Ingvar Kamprad started selling on eBay, they'd want his SSN???

(Founder of IKEA, Swedish guy, no US citizenship, not supposed to have an SSN.)

Ask them what they do for people who are not US citizens or are not otherwise eligible to get one. (If they say I-9, go get one!)

The Only SURE Fire way to avoid the SSN issue is to create your account add an EIN and. go SLOW and NEVER get flagged for ANYTHING, EVER

@boltactionz People/Companies that are as well Known as Ikea, Best Buy, Tiger Direct, CDW, Office Depot, ect,ect are NOT like you and me, these companies get something called an "ISO" account created by Ebay Employees in Ebay's headquaters, NOT online. ISO is short for Isolated. These ISO accounts are treated COMPLETELY different from the rest of the accounts, DRS Mean NOTHING to ISO Accounts because Ebay Knows that these companies have customer service standards that are as high or even higher than Ebays.

this seems the only way round this then, be a foreigner..worth a shot, instead of arguing with them just say have not got it, they cannot check numbers on eg UK ID.

But he needs to prove he's a foreigner. They would ask "where is your passport?"
Do you guys think if one has foreign passport, he can use it for stealth? But the name and DOB are the same, unless....you know what I mean.

Long term plans I go in ready. Have all the paperwork B4 touching paypal or ebay. On top of that I do other things too.

Bear in mind I do refer to USA accounts

I Have found that its better to open a Regular Paypal Premier account, start recieving payments, have Payal ask you for either an EIN or SSN at some point and then Upgrade your Account to a Business account and Provide your EIN

What about just using a business account from the start? Do you have to give an EIN sooner that way?
