BIN vs Variations

So many sellers out there sell the same product over and over and over again. Is there a reason why they are paying the 50cent fee every time instead of saving a BUNCH by listing the item with the "variation option".

Does eb*y frown upon these types of listings or something. As far as i can see its the same thing and it saves money.... I don't see why sellers are not using this to their advantage. Or am i missing something?

The way I see it is the more listings I have, the more exposure and thus increased sales, meaning more money for me.

You pay the additional listing fees for that increased exposure

Not sure if that's what you meant with your question

I guess that's one good thing about it. Not sure if it's worth it tho.

If I manage to sell 5 of product X with one listing, and even 1 more of product X through another listing, then it's definitely worth the listing fee

When I do this I photoshop a new gallery image that looks different

This way I can appeal to different audiences an make more sales

Say I have 5 same items and those items are in high value. I will make 1 Buy it now with variation, and make 2-4 individual auction listings of the same items. Interesting thing is that sometimes I sell the higher one item before the cheaper one.
