PayPal Scary Message

I receieved the following email today

Anyonw know what this means or if I should be worried?

We are contacting you because your PayPal account has potentially invalid or outdated information. Please log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/au and update the information indicated below. After logging in, click on the Profile tab to update your account.

PayPal periodically checks the validity of members' email addresses, phone numbers and mailing addresses to ensure security and prevent potential issues with inactive accounts.

If PayPal does not have current or accurate information on file for your account, we may be unable to confirm your identity. This may make it difficult for you to recover a forgotten password or to receive money sent to you via money request or posted cheques.
Please make the changes indicated above today, or simply choose to close this account and open a new one. You can even use the same email address to open a new account as long as that email address is valid.

If you do not wish to receive email reminders in the future, please edit your settings in the Email Preferences in your Profile.

Your account will be limited shortly for 95% of the time. Paypal doesn't like it at all when you leave a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ phone number and other info on file.

Any advice binary?

Thanks for the info

GreenBean 01-18-2012 07:26 PM

Advice?

Sign in to your account from the browser.

Make sure it's not a phishing email.

Double check your contact info & update where needed.

If all kosher send paypal an email thanking them for their diligence in looking after your account...:amen:

I LIKE THAT! :D

Sounds exactly like something I would do. LOL

GreenBean 01-18-2012 07:44 PM

Makes them feel special ;)

FandangoKango 01-18-2012 08:03 PM

Most likely the number you had on file when they called was not in service or some other message.

newjerseymax 01-18-2012 11:10 PM

That seems like a phishing email to me. I have seen very similar phishing emails. Getting you in a panic and clicking on the links

Javelin 01-18-2012 11:16 PM

Agreeing with newjerseymax, have seen quite a few spoof Paypal emails around lately,
did you make sure that the email sender address is legit, and not to click on the link
included in the email, but to manually type the address on your browser and go to the Aussie Paypal site itself?

Never click on links to sites via email,
just enter the url into the browser and go there manually.
Better safe than sorry.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate all of your input

I'll login and check it out and let you know how it goes

I'm at work, which is why I am yet to log in

Pringles 01-19-2012 12:12 AM

Do I have to make a change?
Would I get limited if I don't take action? Will they call me as soon as I add the new number?

rsot 01-19-2012 11:35 AM

@Mr. Chips, what did you identify was the wrong info that pp is talking about?

biggunn 01-19-2012 09:52 PM

I've gotten these emails. Your account is definitely under higher scrutiny to any suspicious behavior. The email was likely sent because your address is fictional or your phone number is not valid. Make sure you have a real address and a working phone number on file.

Pringles 01-19-2012 11:56 PM

I think it's because the phone number is not an active number
If I update it, will they call me?

Stigger 01-20-2012 09:28 AM

they might, they might not

but if you do not update it you will be limited.

imjustme 01-20-2012 09:49 AM

It happened to me. I updated it to a mobile phone number that I bought for that purpose only. I had it in my phone for over a week and they never called. The account is still good and it's been over a month.

Pringles 01-20-2012 11:44 AM

Exactly what i wanted to hear

Thanks a lot guys!
