New here, and firstly let me say what a great site this is.
Been reading for a good few hours and filling up on knowledge.

Ok, my dilemma - I have a stealth Paypal account limited from 2 years ago. After 180 days, paypal did not remove the limitation and did not allow me to withdraw the money trapped inside.

So I phoned them yesterday and advised that the account has been locked for 2 years, way over the 180 days. But they just read from the script and said someone will update my account within 24 hours.

So checked today, and the account now says they require 2 forms of id (1 photo id). Phoned them today and they say there is no way the account will be unlocked until I provide them with the id, so I just said ok I will do it when I get a chance.

The utilty bill is no problem, I have already sorted that using my artistic skills.

However, the photo id is a bit of a problem . Also, what happens if they reject the id? And can they verify the id with the appropriate sources?

If they reject my id's is the account and money gone forever?

as far as I know you are entitled to your money at 180 regardless of whether you supply ID or not, maybe they are doing this because you did not claim it at correct time or maybe they are being picky... I mean they reject id all the time, but you still get your money..yeh double post, you need to discuss via pm

Have you tried making an official complaint or sending a Letter Before Action to the latest Director of PP UK?

I think they're calling your bluff in order to try to get to keep your money hoping you'll be too scared to take action (people self flagilate themselves by thinking their little misdemener against PP means they are now unable to seek real legal justice against the big bully).

What details was the account in? If It was two years ago and you're new here, I'd guess your real details.

In that case, go to say Consumer Advise Group forums too for legal advise etc.

Take your complaint to Financial Obudsman Service - just google them and call their number (oddly, when I did recently, their 0800 put me through to a residential number so use their 0300 number if this happens still).

Small claims is there for you too.

They can't keep your money like that, even under some pretense of money laundering regulations - there's case law for that where even proper banking institutions were successfully sued for limiting action they weren't allowed to take against someone being flagged for international money laundering in the millions. Definately means PP can't do that to a john smith for normal amounts in hundreds.
