Default PayPal Business Account - Stealth questions

Hi

Ok, so I've personally had two accounts suspended (one personal and one business) in the past.

I recently set up a LTD Company, and made my dad a director. I'm using his details to open the account.

Also, the company is registered at the accountant address, so we are fine there.

Here is what the problem is......

In my past accounts my home address has been my personal and business address.

Now PayPal asks for the directors, or account holders UK address (separate from business address)

I'm not sure whether to state my dad's real address (which is my home address also)...could this raise a flag?

The alternative is to say that the business/accountants address, is also my dads home address.

Can someone please advise?

I've got a new phone number, card, etc. everything is going according to plan, but not sure what to do about above.

Many thanks for any help :-)

Kam

Do not use your home address - use the business address or an address you have access to

loads of ppl run business from their home right

someone who knows more about will chime in soon hopefully

dont do anything till you get a definitive answer

Thanks GrannyT, GTB and rsot

To clarify GTB, the address I've used on previous accounts is my home address where I live with parents.

This new account is under dad's name - so it's not under my name, but I'm unsure whether to use the home address or some other address

TO ADD FURTHER:

I know my brother has a PayPal account up and running, working for a while. Does PayPal really flag addresses? I thought it was the name of the account holder..

But would appreciate further thoughts on this :-)

Paypal flag everything. None of us know the algorithm they run but there is substantial anecdotal evidence to show that you can be linked by the slightest common denominator. Where ever you can always use new and unlinked details

Right, makes perfect sense :-)

Do you know if PayPal will ever request "proof of address" for my dad personally...

Or will it only be proof of address for the business

I just want to prepare now for all scenarios...if I recall correctly, they never ask for the first one on Ltd company business accounts...

PP will more often than not ask for business related information rather than personal information.

PP are liable to ask for a named director or named PP business account holders details or someone connected with the business with authorized access to that business account who is a director of the business.

GT will know more on this subject than me on this though. I'd be interested to see what she has to say on this.

SUVE that's what I thought too..

If anyone else would like to share their experiences, please do. I'm completing the account set-up tonight and won't be mentioning the home address at all..

Is there anything else I may need to know?

Thanks everyone so far!

This is in the realms of your account & tax professionals. Everyone's particular circumstances/requirements are different & beyond the bounds of this board.

Hhhmm?

Really?

It doesnt ask for tax info or anything like that its simply asking us to identify ourselves and our home address so my guess is there either using companies house to see if the business is registered or checking the public records for a match of name and address along with DOB!

Anyway there must be loads of people on here with business accounts that are all doing fine so clearly there is a solution to the problem.

I should correct myself & state that yes you are actually right to say if your question is whether to open a business pp a/c properly, to that effect there are threads on the board on this subject.

I may have gone a step or two further when I said that (though I never said it asked for your tax info) as I was thinking within the context of the overall the 'LTD' setup around the PP A/C; but I follow what you mean.

It has been advised to use a business address where ever possible.

HELP!

Quick recap - I was unsure whether to use home address or business address for PERSONAL details.

I tried the advice above to use the business address.

Instead, this is what PayPal said when I submitted the details:

"We have done some checks and, unfortunately the information you have entered doesn't match the details we found for you. Please click on the Confirm your personal information link and try again."

So PayPal obviously check external records to see if that persons name matches with the address mentioned.

What's my next option? Is there an alternative?

I can't get the limits lifted until personal details are confirmed!

Thanks

You will need documentation to confirm your relationship to the business address.

First of all - is this a limited company or a trading as business?.

If it is a limited company PP will want to know the details of whoever is representing the company. These details should not be in the public domain. Under the latest companies house rules directors are allowed to keep their address details limited purely to the business address - PP can find out nothing from Companies house provided the Ltd company has been set up correctly - this was due to animal rights activists tracing company directors of companies whos' business activities they did not agree with.

As a limited company this is a seperate legal entity to a private person however as a PRIVATE limited company the only limitation is its liability which is limited to the value of the shares issued.

You are entitled to say to PP that the person dealing with the companies affairs is anyone you nominate - that is your get out.

If it isn't a limited company you are wasting your time

Thanks for the detailed reply :-)

Documentation - should be ok, as the bank statements go to the business address too...

It is a LTD company.

So what's my next step?

PayPal asks for the personal details of the person running the account. I've used the business address for the personal details too but PP doesn't recognise it. I have a feeling they have checked something external?

I can't get limits lifted - I could definitely prove the company's relationship with the business address, it's just this...

Any thoughts?

Can you set up an alternate address for the director? You WILL need 'personal' documents. Send GreeBean a message

Yea Im in the same boat!

I have used a nickname on the business details and for the paypal account as I have the paypal account and business owner as the same person but cant verify the personal details on the last screen and get the same message as stated above.

The LTD that I have registered is registered in my real name and not a nick name so what will I need to verify the personal details and lift the limits?

Where can I get docs to do this?

Thanks.
