Default UK users who use Private eBay accounts rather than business

My father in law registered his first ever eBay account back in October.

He had a private eBay selling account, and is frustrated with the selling limits.

Recently 2 family's became one, and his double garage is literally crammed with s*** for eBay. But 100 listings a month (combined with about 95 purchases) means his pile isn't going down too quick ha)

He has had his PP account limited already (sold a £1600 rolex on a 6 week old account against my advice) but got it restored, so I think he is pretty solid now!

My advice to call eBay was no use, they won't raise the limits if a private seller so he was told.

Does anyone know how long it'll be before his limits get raised, and maybe an estimate of what sort of numbers we are talking?

Pretty simple to get round the limits - operate multiple stealth accounts...

Good advice.

Say 5 accounts - get the p/p fully verified and suddenly your listing 500 items a month.

Then let them grow slowly over a few months (don't push it) and before long you could be listing 1000 items a month

Softly, softly

However ebay has thrown rather a spanner in the works with that one. Lots of people are reporting after verification of their paypal when they go to request 100 items a month rather than 10, they are now getting asked to confirm a pin number sent to the stealth address......

That is the obvious answer to us lot...

But he isn't capable of running the stealth way, barely operates his own account lol.

So basically the whole stealth 'method' is now down the pan to a degree for people who are making new accounts under new address now?

Or am I not thinking outside the brackets

Stealth addresses used should always be accessible. Golden rule

There's more to that than meets the eye.

Not had it happen on two recent accounts that have had limits lifted with fully verified p/p

How many people in the household?

They could all possibly have an account, not stealth of course but would allow the 'family' to collectively raise their selling limits. They can all be linked to one p/p (max 8 allowed)

Remember though if one goes down they all could but if stealth is not an option then this way could be.

Not an option I want him to go down to be honest. A manual review of the accounts, and they will think he is using the 100 free listings to his advantage, and we all know how fickle eBay are if they think they are losing out!

They don't need to be free listings.

accessible addresses are better but not always available in large amounts, they are not 100% necessary for selling...

Fair point but if letters being sent to the registered address to confirm location in order to raise selling limits are going to be the norm then accessible addresses will be a must have.

except they dont get sent, that ended long time ago in UK......

but verifications can change and it might go back to that method in the future......vary depending on country, I know US, Aus and UK all have different verification methods to each other.......

Where have you been Oompa!

He was talking about a very new eBay method where they are sending a letter to the address on file to raise the selling limits from 10-100. A verified location confirmed paypal is no longer sufficient!

Is this now the norm? If it is that rather screws the account sellers up doesn't it?

Not the norm at present but there have been several reports of this happening when requesting to raise selling limits.

My guess is that has something to do with these particular addresses not showing up or not matching public records and p/p and e/b are putting a double check in place. Just my guess of course but it might explain why it has only happened to a very few posters. Personally had no problems raising limits on recent accounts with a fully verified p/p behind it.

i opened a account a week ago and didnt get sent a pin. Luckily really because its a address i do not have access to.

I think it may be a trial or random accounts that are getting hit.

It has made me make future accounts in an address i have access to tho.

They can try but they will never stop us lol.

Seems to be a mixture to be honest - mixed reports.

Currently investigating further....
