i am trying to use modem to do stealth since the router is very complicated

my family each has their own laptop and connected by wireless connection. If i plug the modem directly to my comp and do a "/ipconfig release or /ipconfig renew" then i reconnect the modem to router,will it affect my family's connection??

basically its like

1) unplug from router and connect modem to my comp
2) do ipconfig/renew or release
3) plug back the modem cable to router

will it affect my family's connection due to the IP changes in modem?

By affect you mean will it disconnect them from the internet?

so even after i put the cable back to the router they will still get disconnected?

It will be disconnected for the time the modem cable is plugged into your laptop, then it will reconnect itself after a few minutes after you plug the modem cable back to the router. I not much of a techie, but I'm 95% sure this is how it works.

^ yeah i know that but the thing is the stealth requires a ipconfig/renew and i am afraid that my family will stay disconnected after i plug back the cable to router.

once you plug the router and modem back up everyone will reconnect with no problems

Not being a techy either I think if you have a security password on your router (which is recommended ) just give everyone the code so they can get online.

Maybe do a sticky note with the password so everyone will have it.

yeah diff routers will have diff passwords. linksys would be admin as the pass unless its been changed.

no the thing is i wanna know if ipconfig/renew will affect the other users once i plug back the cable to router.

It will if they use their computers for bank info or paypal as they may be asked a few secruity questions as the ip will have changed.

they are not using bank info/pp, so i should say its a good to go for my steps now?
