auction best selling time & day

Hi,

I've been selling on ebay for a while now & I still can't figure out what the best selling time and days are for an auction.

What do you think, guys? Is it better for auctions to ends during weekday business hours or evening or weekend?

Thanks all..

I always like to end my auctions around 12 noon. I seem some chart that most people are online around 11-12am. I would think that time gets more people bidding/watching your listing which equals to higher price.

About the day of the listing, Sorry I have no idea but would love to find a chart on that.

**I am adding this, It depends on what your target buyer is. But women do most of their online shopping between 12am and 1pm. While for men is 7 and 8pm.

***Source Who is shopping online? Who

This is not selling but it's the closet thing I can find about people being online on what day of the week. It tells how much people are online using Facebook

It's all different and depends on your items too. There's not much difference between Sunday evening and Wednesday afternoons either. I just think as long as its not ending at 3am you'll do good pretty much any time.

Actually I did a test for this exact thing, sold identical items on two accounts and the same volume. Set them up for 11am and 7pm on Sunday, after 24 items were sold. Added up the prices and there was only a $74 difference which is nothing as that kind of difference would happen if I had listed them at the same times. I added in the same items ending at 7pm Thursdays and same thing, almost no difference.

Thursday nights on a 3 day to end on Sunday evening, or do a 5 day from Thursday evening. Most activity is during this time frame people are home for the weekend, got pay checks etc..

I have used this duration since 2000 and never will list any different. Always move all not some all my inventory by auction.

I like to end my auctions on Sunday nights between 7 and 10.

The next best night for me is Tuesday nights.

Do not end anything on Wed or Thurs while American Idol is on.

Totally depends on what you sell.

Knock off DVDs/"adult" stuff? List to finish about 11am in UK - this is when the Jeremy Kyle show finishes and all the scumbags log on.

Childrens games/toys - probably 3pm-5pm when the kids get back in school and nag their Mums before sensible Dad gets home and halts proceedings!!

Gaming cards/itunes etc - 11pm-2am when all the "gamers" are out in force.

One thing that I take note of in UK is the Television schedule. If there is a "huge" episode of Eastenders or Coronation Street or if there is a big footy match on TV then this can capture 8 million or more viewers. That's 8 million people not bidding on my item - so I avoid finishing at those times...

If only I could master a way to get 8 million people to bid on my item...........

PS...According to eBay chief exec the most popular day for eBay trading is Christmas Day. People are either selling crappy presents that they didn't want/need, they are spending cash that has been gifted to them OR they are bored and drunk on this festive occasion and merely impulse buying.

I wonder what the statistics are for unpaid items a week later...

Look into Terapeak.

It tells you the specifics on the item you are selling.

KingRay 04-03-2012 12:52 AM

Yes, terapeak is what you need. you can get specifics on the exact product you want to sell and what the most popular times or sales count is for any time frame.

You wont get a better answer than that or similar software.

rayraymond1218 04-09-2012 12:38 PM

Thank you very much, I used to end my auctions from 9pm to 10pm and it didn't work that well. 11-12am works perfectly, does eastern and pacific time matter?

JomJarr 04-10-2012 02:11 PM

Selling internationally too means having to pick the country times to appeal to. e.g. selling vintage hifi would often appeal to far east as well as europe so a UK mid-day ending time will fit into both zones.

this really is the best way to do it. every item has a different time of day and day of week that it sells best at. there are way too many variables to just say "wednesdays at 530pm."

Sneakee 04-10-2012 05:22 PM

Well maybe but there are so many variables that it's hard to tell from your test if things sold better last Wednesday because it was Wednesday or if it was a better week for selling.

I want to see more research on this. Sundays always seem like the best but surely that can't be the case for all types of items?

Just side questions.
1/ When do you make auction & fixed price listing?
2/ If you have a store, do you still list auction as often (due to higher fee)?
3/ With fixed price listings, in my opinion, If I use Good until cancelled, buyers can't see when I list the items and it looks better than if you have only 5 days left (for example) with no purchase. Do you think so?
