Paypal 'Risk Alert Icon/Flag'

Hi All,

I logged on to my Paypal today and have numerous payments from today that have red flags next to them. When I hover over the flag it just states "Risk Alert", there is no further information.

Does anyone know what this means?

All the payments are from verified accounts and don't seem dodgy.

Just worried the Paypal Police will start sniffing around.

Thankful 04-05-2012 08:32 AM

I was just about to ask this myself actually i also got the "risk factor" flag on payments coming in today!!

My guess is alot of people got it today -I called my US buddy up aswell seems he has it aswell with payments coming in!! It's going to be an interesting discussion i think.

I think paypals testing something out - there definitely upto something!!

Nothing to worry about i think.

I think there finally going to go down harder on buyers who scam and who have alot of returns - they'll be getting flagged up alot if there scammers hence the "risk factor" thats just my opinion rather logical i think.

they_screwed_me_too 04-05-2012 08:34 AM

ive had the same on my accounts too, all transactions today flagged

GREEN LION 04-05-2012 08:35 AM

same here.

they_screwed_me_too 04-05-2012 08:35 AM

just to confirm its happening on my real accounts too not just stealth ones

Thankful 04-05-2012 08:38 AM

Yeah it's happening on real and stealth accounts - there simply testing out there new system against buyers i think.

GREEN LION 04-05-2012 08:39 AM

i think happened to lots of people today ,there is a thread in ebay community about this.

anotherpaypalvictim 04-05-2012 08:41 AM

When I get payments with e-checks I get that littel red flag. Maybe it has something to do with that. Just saying, or paypal is playing with things atm.

GrannyT 04-05-2012 08:50 AM

Thank god it's not just me - most of todays sales have it

it's asking you to upgrade to business account? were? by email or on the paypal?

Whats the message

Callidus 04-05-2012 10:23 AM

Log into your PayPal if you're not already using a 'business paypal' it should be showing the word UPGRADE next to the word 'Premier'..

Hasn't shown there before at all, only appeared when the Red flags did..

Anyone else showing this is the case?

Callidus 04-05-2012 11:13 AM

Apparently this is what it is; TAKEN FROM E B AY foru ms

Paypal CS and they have said that this is a new visual air for ebay sellers to remind you to...

1: send all items signed for or by courier to qualify for seller protection
2: to remind sellers to check the buyers address registered with both paypal and ebay and that they match up
3: finally to only post to the address registered with paypal as if you post to another address you will not be covered

One of my customers tried to tell me it had something to do with reebook and Nike switch? Have no clue where he would get that info... :>

Risk Alert!

hackteck 04-05-2012 02:02 PM

it started on one of my accounts last night on a sale of an ipad first thing i thought was ok this account is ****** lol did a little searching and found out i wasnt the only one

newjerseymax 04-05-2012 02:17 PM

Just confirmed it 20x times on a confirmed business account too...

I have had issues with tracking not entering automatically lately...

Maybe someone inside paypal a employee is getting revenge... \

Or they are finally just telling the truth.... EVERY TRANSACTION IS HIGH RISK! lol

I like this :p

jbluntz 04-06-2012 03:07 AM

I got the same selling some cheap cd-r's from the local store.

Callidus 04-06-2012 04:48 AM

why do I have some very sneaky feeling that these 'red flags' are what is used to put someone in the 'HIGH RISK' category, meaning if you were to receive a certain amount of red flag transactions that either resulted in a chargeback / buyer protection case or a negative feedback.. this is what could cause a limitation ?

Am I thinking too hard about this or ..:faint:

KingRay 04-06-2012 05:49 AM

Thinking way too much into it. GB already mentioned the answer to all of it above.

A very simple search on paypal would take you to exactly what it is. They are doing some work on their system and some payments will have it.

No sense in realy even speculating. Its completely random by looking at the records of the buyers in each. No new, or old, not just echecks, etc.

Just have to explain to everyone when they question you if you are paying is all.

Yea at first I thought maybe they are showing us something by mistake, something they only see from the admin side of things. However, when I checked my accounts every transaction was included with red flags.
