No, They can't.

Its IP address that you need to take care

Can't doesn't nessesarily means won't in the future though

True, there's lots of ways they could 'possibly' track you in the future but thankfully were all working in the present with an eye on what's ahead. :thumb:

OP meant present though.

So are you saying ebay currently can not detect your MAC code, but they have a team working on how they can.

No such statment was made.

In direct reply to your question, as of 4/7/2012 the 'MAC code' is not detected.

Your issue is the IP coupled with the manner in which you operate your account :peace:

If MAC becomes an issue in the future there are many solutions to the problem but more on that IF and when the time comes :p

Pretty sure mac address can be detected. It is pretty easy to change this, and also a good idea when creating a new steath account.

The question is relative to EBAY, not amazon.

Dont make waves yet. :smash:

I dont know if it's just me though..but i noticed when in created a new username on Windows 7 my MAC address with sky broadband changed anyway? then i just tether on my seperate username for ebay/internet only..had no problems..and i'm paranoid about cookies..so I constantly cc clean..and adobe flash delete/wipe..

NoneOther 04-10-2012 01:12 PM

Leave cookies well alone, there is no need to delete them if you are using separate user accounts.

e/b and p/p expect to see cookies and get nervous when there are none every time you log in and can lead to unnecessary limitations.

'Normal' people don't delete cookies every 5 minutes.

Deleting cookies is NOT staying under the radar.

Be prepared I say incase they do ever make a move over to mac matching.

I've been a network technician and programmer for many years. There are ways to get a MAC address, but it would need to be done with a Java applet or some sort of program running on the person's machine that sends the information. In any way, you would have to "authorize" it.

Only the "hop" next to you can see the MAC address. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can see it, but the next hop already can't. When you send a website request, it goes through around 8-12 hops on average. If you're in the UK and eBay is in California, it goes through hops located in the UK, US East Coast, then through several major cities until it gets to California. Nobody can see your MAC address except the one right next to you, which is almost always your ISP, and certainly not eBay. For eBay to see your MAC address, you would have to be in the same building as eBay.

And I'm not aware of eBay running any Java applets on anyone's computer. And with Flash it can't be done either. Flash has no networking capabilities to that extent.
