Can I use my scanner to scan items?

Is it safe to use the same scanner to scan on a new ebay account? I have used the scanner before on a banned ebay account? Am I safe to use the scanner still? Before upload ill use photo privacy? Let me know

I take it you create a .jpg file which if you then process with photo privacy it is ok to use as there will be no exif data.

Wow.

Never thought of this.

I have scanned tons of docs and never thought of it.

Guess I should have known better.

So far never an issue but will learn how to not do this.

Thanks for posting this great question.

Maybe some of our techie friends can tell us how to scan someone and save it without having issues later on when sending docs in.

Most .jpg images contain a small copy of the original image even after it has been 'edited'. That's why e/b & p/p prefer you to send .jpg

You should always strip data with your program of choice.

Did you not read any of the replies?

Your question has been answered.

I always use PNG for lots of reasons. It doesn't save as much "unwanted information" within the file as much, as well as having a much better filesize vs quality ratio. JPEG is a dying format.

Hockey12 04-15-2012 10:11 PM

JPEG what do you mean dying format?

I have been just using my camera for now and using photo privacy to clean it.

I just want to know scanning my items then using the program will be the same and safe?

they are saying that you need to strip data out before you upload it.

scanners can leave data but also pics contain info like make/model and cell pics can even have gps tags showing geolocation.

Might be best to ask the question again, just to be sure. ;)

Dont encourage him, there's only so much a person can take :noidea:

Hockey12 04-16-2012 01:58 PM

Lol -_- Thanks

Omgoozle 04-18-2012 10:21 PM

Easiest way around this issue:

1. Open the picture you want to send.
2. Hit either (PRNT SCREEN) or (FNCTN + PRNT SCREEN).
3. Open MS Paint.
4. Go to "EDIT" and then "PASTE" (or CTRL + V).
5. You have a picture of your screen while viewing the object, HOORAY!
6. Copy the entire object.
7. Open new file.
8. Paste Object.
9. Crop as needed.
10. Save new file as "LOL1.jpg"

LOL1.jpg will not have any of the same metadata as the original object, because it is a picture of a screenshot of the original item. It has no metadata other then the username of your own personal computer, which is not scrutinized by PP/eB staff.

I hope that helps,
Goozle

oompaloompa 04-19-2012 04:22 AM

oomgoozle you said user name of your computer, Ive never seen that after removing data, do you mean computer name or the document folder name eg public>pictures etc
