Inconsistencies in eBay's signup / seller verification process

I have been experimenting a little with eBay over the last few months and noticed a few inconsistencies in eBay's seller verification process:

One account I created was verified by phone, credit card and bank (via Paypal). I let the account sit without doing anything other than watching and bidding on items I knew I wouldn't win and then decided to list something. Within hours of listing a low risk item the account was suspended with a MC081 asking for ID documents and proof of ownership. I shall supply them with the documents in due course so seeing how this one works out will be interesting.

Second account I created, left a while then I verified by phone and with a credit card ... however I was unable to list an item until I add bank account details. I'm still waiting for new a new account number and sort code so this account is in limbo until they arrive.

Third account I created I watched a few items, bid on a few others then went to list an item straight away (within hours of opening the account), again I verified with a phone call and a credit card but eBay didn't ask for any bank account details this time, they allowed me to list straight away.

Fourth account, same as the second account really ... just waiting on new bank account details to verify the account.

I'm at a loss as to why eBay seem inconsistent with what information they ask for to be able to actually list an item :noidea:

I've also noticed some unusual inconsistencies in their approach to linking accounts.

Is it normal for eBay to ask for bank account details or to link to a verified Paypal account before they allow a seller to list an item? If so why didn't they request them for the second account?

Mine often requires a credit card to selling... With gift card not so bad scenario...

Its not unusual for them to ask for link to a PP before listing an item anyway they alwasy ask me to do so to get the 100/£3500 limit

100/3500 not bad.

Thanks for the replies :)

It's not so much the link to Paypal, it's more that they want to verify a bank account with micro deposits before they allow me to list an item, this makes things more awkward as bank accounts are a lot more bother to arrange than VCC's are.

I'm sure that the accounts which they have asked for bank details on will be fine once bank details are supplied but it would make life far easier and reduce bank account wastage on suspended accounts if I didn't have to supply bank details prior to selling.

I was just curious why they didn't ask for bank account details on one of the accounts I opened and allowed me to list an item when I only verified with a credit card and a phone call.

Not really sure what the problem is as you need a fully verified p/p account to be able to sell on e/b UK so you will have to have a bank account attached to that anyway and the same account would be used for both if necessary.

I think your looking at this from the wrong angle.

NOT in the UK.

Correctly, a verified paypal should be attached to an ebay account to allow successful selling.

Been a requirement to be verified to sell.

This has been noted before. But in case you missed it:

to sell CORRECTLY on ebay uk a verified paypal should be attached to the ebay.

Too many butt in and suggest a variation of selling that only makes troubles.:heh:

True - selling CORRECTLY - I will retract the comment.
