Default Does any bank share your personal details

Hi

Well i know that Paypal can't share bank details. What about other sites.
Would a bank give them your real name and address.

Surely that is breach of privacy law.

Any ideas?

Shady sites might but any respectable site with reputation will not unless law enforcement is involved.

In the US, account details can only be shared under some very specific circumstances. For example, in response to a court subpoena or a law enforcement investigation. In addition, if you earn more than $10 in interest, that would be reported to the IRS.

But, generally speaking, they cannot give out your personal information.

Maybe someone else will have specific information on the laws in the UK.

Situation is similar in the UK and in Australia. Majority of EU countries maintain high levels of protection too.

This concept of personal details not being revealed needs careful consideration.

At law, it is stated no information would be revealed.

In fact, if a company was pursuing a customer/client there is no guarantee.

Certainly the majority of people would have no problems.

No-one should be naive eough to think their privacy is totally protected.

There a lot of laws in place... However when it comes down to it... Many break those laws and do not even know it... I worked customer service for 20+ years in industry that keeps a lot of personal info... Names, birthdates, address, credit card numbers, phone numbers and these were all one way or another easily accessible by lower level line employees.

GreenBean and newjerseymax are both right. Externally, your efforts to find info may be rebuffed. But in these companies' little circle of close associates/parent sister companies etc, there is probably more sharing going on than we might like.
