eBay *decreased* selling limits because I have 2 accounts?

One of my accounts had a selling limit of about 800 items per month and around $10,000. I then created another account with the same information in order to build up a 2nd account. The accounts share everything from name over address to credit card.

Now, I get this email:

Quote:

Based on your account information and activity, it looks like user ID XXXXX is associated with your account. This usually indicates that both accounts belong to the same person.

Because the other account is restricted or otherwise not meeting minimum seller standards, we've changed the amount you can list on eBay.

You can now sell up to 10 items per month, whichever comes first. After 90 days, we'll reassess your account and may increase your limits based on your selling performance.
Are they serious? They decreased the main account's selling allowance, despite having over 3000 all positive (not even a neutral) feedback, and placed the same selling limit on it (10 items) as the brand new account.

It's been mentioned many times recently that linked accounts can now be made to 'share' selling allowances by e/b.

Only in an adverse context that is, never to the benefit of the seller.

Was the original account "restricted or otherwise not meeting minimum seller standards" or did they just pull that out of air?

imjustme 04-29-2012 06:22 PM

The original account has no problems ...well, didn't until now. Thousands of all positive feedback and high selling limits.

The new account had no problems. Only sold 1 month without problems and paid the bill right away.

You did not do your homework correctly.

ebay made changes to the amount of items that could be listed.

Where sellers already had two accounts linked, that was accepted and allowed to continue.

Where some sellers attached another account to try to get around the limits ebay did the following:
2nd account got lmited & not permitted to sell.
limits between the accounts were split ( as you discovered)

BUT: in some instances, when a seller made a 2nd account and went to increase said account's limits, ebay OFFERED the option of attaching that to an existing good standing account.
Sees you missed that crucial point :pout:

How are the limits between the 2 accounts split? They're not. Both accounts have a limit of 10 items per month now. They're hardly split, since the main account used to have an 800 items limit with $10k per month. If anything, they should have split it to 400 and $5k each.

And I did go and link the 2 accounts in order to increase the selling limits. Nothing happened, the new account remained at 10, and a few days later the main account got lowered to 10 as well.

None of the accounts are suspended. I can list up to 10 items on both without problems.

I don't think I missed anything. I play the eBay game for many years now and it seems like something with their bots is wrong.

It is rough - I have had a similar situation where an account went from 100 to 10 due to a second account being opened up...no issues whatsoever on the main account.

It all just confirms that one e/b to one p/p is still the best formula.

Am i right to believe that you got limited selling amount to 10 due to having 2 accounts with same info?

Or did one of the accounts have a problem like in "imjustme" case were he already had a restriction on one account and he opened a 2nd with same info?

Thank you. Someone gets it!!

I was stuck with 10-per month selling limits for over 3-months when I first started, this is eBay! You need to call them and deal with them and they'll raise your allowance.

holyhell 05-25-2012 07:49 PM

Here is my proof that EB/PP are unpredictable. I have been on an unbelievable lucky streak lately with both of them, but one example....

I always do 2 EB to 1 PP. After the first one is 3 months old, I open the second account. This usually makes my item limit creep up rather slowly (duh)....

But for whatever reason, the main account went from 20 straight to 100. Instead of going nuts and listing like a maniac, I have simply resorted to cartwheels. I'm not going to ruin this......not intentionally, anyhow.

You made a mistake you are now paying for it and we are all learning because of this...

newjerseymax 05-26-2012 04:21 AM

Sounds like a possible glitch in set-up.... You should have ended up with 400/5000 & 400/5000 of course unless the manual review led to some uncovering of practices they do not like.
