Moving & taking my business to Spain

Hi all,

A few questions I need answering;

1. If I was to up and move to Spain, (I am currently living in the UK) am I still able to login to my eBay UK account with a Spanish IP and everything be ok?

2. Has anyone also any experience with logging into PayPal from an EU country where the account was made in the UK?

3. Anyone that lives in Spain got any information on post offices, are they similar to the UK, widely available?

4. Customs Info - Customs are they slow / fast ... average time for packages there from China / HK?

Thanks

Yes. But be prepared for trouble.

Yes. And had heaps of trouble.

Different designs of buildings.
Depends on geographical location. Spain varies greatly with its infrastrcture.

Slow. Spain does business slow. Bribes help ;)

Need more than thanks to get by in Spain. What research have you done? It takes a lotof money to live there. A real lot.
You have to cover yourself with different paperwork.
NIE
Residencia
Banking is different too.
Drive on different side of the road

It cannot be as much as it costs to live in the UK, especially London...

NoneOther 05-11-2012 08:28 AM

It does if your not Spanish.

For example Self Employed National Insurance contributions are 225 Euros a month minimum. Don't try to avoid paying it because they are harsh on offenders and Spanish prisons are not like the holiday camps that UK provide.

Trying to get employment with a Spanish company is virtually impossible if you are not fluent in the language.

Then there are the local taxes and property taxes that you have to pay.

And to top it all they have over 20% unemployment and everything is going up in price like a rocket.

Post offices are generally only found in the main towns, their delivery service is as and when it arrives, their postal 'losses' are astronomical.

Apart from that and a shed load of other negatives to living and working there it a great country.

It is expensive to live in Spain.

Most expats have to rent. That's dead money for starters.

Cost of the flight there.

Cost of importing a car or purchasing one there?
(Small matter of driving on different side of the road. Imported wheels need to be converted(or did))

Language differences affect doing business.

Sorry think this has been totally misunderstood.

The title is of this thread is very misleading.
What I was looking to do is get ALL my stock sent to Spain whilst I do a season abroad in a clubbing resort, this means I wouldn't need to be working etc.

I just wondered whether I could carry on eBay as 'casual work' which would save me working out there?

Anyone got any thoughts on it?

Expensive to live in Spain - does it not depend where?

Lots of issues as GB already pointed out.

You could probably get away with it for a couple of weeks abroad on 'holiday' but a whole season is a different story.

My guess is you would lose most accounts pretty quickly, especially p/p

No, all of Spain is expensive now.

Their economy is in complete meltdown and as I said before they have well over 20% unemployment.

Tough if your Spanish and even tougher if your an ex pat.

rsot 05-11-2012 10:46 AM

Economy is on meltdown, high unemployment, and still expensive to live - that equation is not a viable one for country survival.

Callidus 05-11-2012 10:46 AM

NoneOther - Niceone, thanks for the advice.

Hmmm.... lots of thinking to be done. Looks like I might have to bring a few more Ebay accounts into action treble my income go out there, IF I needed money order more stock and meet it back in the UK shift 100/200 pcs then back out there...!

Living the dream.!

Exactly, and that is why the rest of Europe is having to bail them out along with Greece and Portugal with billions and billions of ££££££££££

God bless the Euro Zone

rsot 05-11-2012 12:15 PM

I knew of Greece and Portugal's woes but I guess Spain never came up to the forefront on my readings. Pretty rough indeed.

ovidiu 05-11-2012 12:28 PM

Spain?

you're joking, right?

eBayorbust - I wouldn't class the Costa Del Crime as a 'party resort'...lol :noidea: I was referring more to Ibiza / Majorca (Balearics)

ovidiu - Spain for the Summer months of the year isn't a bad thing - My goal after eBay is the money to be had in these party resorts with food & drink, nothing wrong with that my friend.

rsot 05-11-2012 01:12 PM

So the value of the Euro in Spain is also depreciating?

Callidus 05-11-2012 01:14 PM

No its actually got better in the last few days, when I checked it was up to €1.26 to the £ which is higher than in the last year or more...

It went up after the new French President was elected.. :)

rsot 05-11-2012 01:20 PM

Ah yes - and he will prob try to make some European concessions/amendments which German prez will be steadfast against...going to be interesting.

And I could think of a hundred places I'd rather be than these "party" resorts. They're filled with British chav morons pissing their lives away because they've got nothing better going on in their sad existence.

This summer will be even worse with the Euros, "Ca'mon England" etc.

The only money to be made in these places is in drug dealing. ;)

A bit of a sweeping overview, I know, but given I spend a lot of my working week dealing with this kind of arseh0le, I tend to holiday in places as far away from them as possible.

NoneOther 05-11-2012 01:49 PM

Spain is littered with ex pats who thought they could make their fortune selling food and drink to tourists.

The reality is that it almost never ever transpires and they head home broke and downhearted.

There are a million and one ways to better invest your money.

I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer. I have done the Jamaica's etc and I love it, relaxing. Lovely place to go with the Mrs etc.

Just because people like myself like to go to those resorts I am FAR from a chav I can promise you that. Thanks for your input though *SIGH*
