Why on earth would you do something silly like that? If you are happy to do it I know someone who will buy every car you have. Expect a SNAD or item not received though as he will want to get his money back from you after he has sold your car on to someone else.

Think about it - and then forget it - daftest idea I've heard in a long time

My rule is...

NEVER accept PayPal on any item where local pick up is used.

Why deal with the hassle, fees, and possibly dealing with a customer who might say they never received the item.

Yeah do not use, avoid! not as described or not delivered can put you into a lot of stress and have people scam you. Would you get your money back? Possibly but why go through all that hassle involving lawyers, etc.

Avoid

Bank or cash up front would be ideal.

I wouldn't advice doing this because as people have said..
firstly you can get scammed of the fact the person will say they never recieved it/damaged/not as described.
Even if you get a written reciept, ebay/paypal would only accept a tracking number to the members address, and even then he could probably still win a case on a minor issue like not as described etc.

Your best to do as these guys have said and save yourself fees and hassle by either accepting cash on collection (and just paying your listing fees) or doing a straight full cash sale.

Your second issue is this amount of cash through any paypal is running a risk as they'll instantly think it's a big amount and probably limit your account. I wouldn't run the risk myself.

Cash - it never bounces, it never gets limited and is available for you to use immediately.

It used to be popular years ago and seems to be making a comeback

if you look at other car ads or even regular sellers of other stuff like furniture etc, they usually want methods other than paypal eg. cash or bank transfer. I mean a small deposit to hold something, maybe by paypal, but that is all...if you are picking up what would be the point of going via paypal....and putting the transaction in to their hands and the possibility of a chargeback or dispute....
