| | | Mack the Knife | 08-17-2012 11:18 AM | PayPal searches for you.... Am sure everyone knows this, but I thought I'd say it again.
Opened a PP account under my real name (I have "two" names, double-barrelled surname). PP actually performed an "enquiry", and it shows on my credit report. Saying that, an "enquiry" is a footprint to let you know that a company searched for you - it's not a "credit search".

| Molten Gold | 08-17-2012 01:17 PM | Which credit agency did they use ?
Also, this seems strange since Paypal can't do it until telling you about it explicitly. Or if you hit the receiving limit and choose to verify yourself.
Nevertheless, I'll have a look at my credit report once you let me know which agency they used. |
| Ebayorbust | 08-17-2012 01:23 PM | Most folk on here wouldnt know about it as most folk are using stealth names and no one is likely to run a credit check on their stealth name. :D
Will be used as part of the £1900 receiving limit check and no doubt one of the main three agencies: Equifax, Experian or Call Credit. |
| meVebay | 08-17-2012 01:45 PM | It's Call Credit that PayPal do their enquiry's at. (Or at least it was 6 months ago) |
| ZoonVoo | 08-17-2012 01:59 PM | question, did you open your paypal account on the same date, or before that date? |
| yotano211 | 08-17-2012 03:00 PM | I think this is for the UK only, ^^^ |

| yotano211 | 08-17-2012 07:38 PM | wow, it seems harder to sell in the UK with every passing month. |
| GreenBean | 08-17-2012 08:14 PM | Stop making silly statements. If you plan correctly, follow stealth, selling is possible in any country
:juggle: |

| Mack the Knife | 08-17-2012 10:24 PM | @ZoonVoo,
Opened the PP account earlier, verified it with bank account + debit card and left it. It's not linked to EB, just a plain vanilla PP account, using real name.
Added PP as a payment method on William Hill and funded it with 50 quid from PP, using card. Same date as the "enquiry". I believe this is what triggered the "enquiry".
Just wanted to convey this info. Was wondering if they did checks on account opening? Or does the first transaction trigger such an "enquiry".
Anyway, fyi. |
| Molten Gold | 08-18-2012 08:53 AM | Just checked my Callcredit report, and there's no Paypal enquiry on there.
The Paypal account is in my real name and address etc.
I think the funding to William Hill triggered it, being a betting site and all.
Or maybe William Hill did the identity check. Neither Paypal (unless you apply for the paypal credit card, not the access card) nor William Hill can do a credit check on you, just basic identity checks. Something like this: http://i.imgur.com/EfP54.png |
| Mack the Knife | 08-19-2012 02:35 AM | @Molten,
Am confused :(
Yours shows Betfair, i.e Betfair initiated it. Mine says PP. Had this WH account for many years now, doubt WH would initiate an "enquiry", especially since the org. was stated as being PP.
I believe orgs. can't carry out a full "credit search" without your explicit consent, but it seems anyone can do one of those 'electronic identification' thingy?? Would be grateful if someone could shed light.
P.S. BTW, PP also did an "enquiry" on a new stealth account, no bank/card added. |
