Possible?

I've been watching this guy bid on his own auctions for like 2 weeks now. He keeps doing it and seems to be able to get away with it. I haven't tried this for like 4 years now. But is there a way to do it now that i do not know about?

You can never get caught if you change your ip? its impossible.... use a diffrent user and a new ebay with no connection to you whatsever and your golden.

MM78 08-26-2012 10:34 PM

Loop, how do you know he's bidding on his own auctions? have you had a run-in with him?

Gamefreak 08-26-2012 11:28 PM

I have 4 ISP in my house so im sure you can do this without getting caught

Artann 08-27-2012 12:41 AM

Using the same account?

yotano211 08-27-2012 03:13 AM

But what is his goal for doing all of this. He is raising the prices on items or buying his own stuff.

If buying his own items, then he is dumb. Paying all of those fees.

rsot 08-27-2012 03:33 AM

1. How does it affect you?

2. Why do you want to interfere with his activities?

3. Seems like a waste of your precious time.

I used to do that, before I realised that starting the auction at the minimum price that I was willing to accept, still yielded great results. I would just cancel the transaction and get my fees back on any items that I ended up winning...

yotano211 08-27-2012 04:13 AM

I once did that with 2 accounts, cancel stuff so I wouldn't have to pay fees. I was testing things out. That account lasted 2 weeks after I started doing it. I had tons of buyers message me "why do you want to cancel this and blah blah". 2 weeks after starting both accounts went history. I dont do it anymore, it was only a test of the ebay system.

It doesn't. And i don't want to interfere with his activities. I just wanted to know if it was possible without getting caught by the system. If you call watching a waste of time then i do a lot of that ;)

It actually has a lot of potential if used right.

Why are people doing this? This is clearly fraud. No wonder eb and pp have placed such strict policies in place. I am tired of eb and pp's ways, just as everybody else, but this kind of activity only makes things tougher for everybody. I made mistakes too in the past, but i view stealth as a chance to make up for these mistakes, and i dont plan on making same mistakes..

slim jim 08-27-2012 09:27 AM

there was a whole big deal a few years ago and they made a case study about ebay's shill bidding, saying that they didn't just know but turned the other way. i am sure in the long run when it is done properly it can be very profitable

Mr. Invisible 08-28-2012 05:01 PM

I used to do this, to get some early activity on a listing. I now have too many listings to baby sit them.

Like Elijah I now start listings @ the minimum I'm willing to accept or fixed.

That being said, If you need to move money around for whatever reason ;) this is a workable but expensive solution. :peace:

slim jim 08-28-2012 09:21 PM

amen to that. my main inventory is only on a fixed price. i know what price i want and what people will pay for it. with patience the fixed price will usually get you 25% more $$$$ and that's what we are here for

Pffft shill bidding in my experience is too much risk and too much time wasted for the reward and sometimes you end up winning your own item.

ZoonVoo 08-31-2012 06:09 AM

I do not see a point bidding on your own stuff, if your items do not get much bids you need to work on that by changing the starting price or how you advertise your item or maybe your item is not wanted on Ebay community
