| | | | | webprojectuk | 09-25-2012 11:23 AM | Same Name, Different Address I have tried to see if this has been covered before but could not find anything so here it goes:
Thinking logically - Ebay and PayPal can only link you by the normal computer related stuff, including the address. However, if you open a new Ebay account using the same name, dob and different address then surely this should not result in a link - as technically speaking anyone with my name and dob will never be able to open an account.
I am a programmer by trade so have good understanding on how data can be linked together - and I know that with someone such as a large number of customers as Ebay and PayPal this would not be possible.
The only link to you as a person would be through the normal credit check. But if you provide documents which have not been seen by PayPal or Ebay before then this should not create a problem.
Regarding showing the same documents well this will come down to PayPal and Ebay's Data Protection policies and how long they are allowed to keep copies of passports and driving licences. I would imagine they can't keep such copies forever. Probably something which I need to look into a little further.
Also, by law any company which holds such information about an individual must provide this information if requested in writing. Has anyone tried this? |

| I think EB use's multiple linking metrics & the more association that exist between a suspect account to another account, the higher the risks EB perceives you to present to them.
Techinically speaking, you would not be showing the 'same' documents as each would be altered for each respective account. |
| slim jim | 09-25-2012 11:35 AM | using the same name AND dob would be easily linkable, using same name and everything else different is another story. i don't believe ebay/paypal has a time limit on how long they can keep info as it would not make sense in stopping scammers from waiting til their deadlines are up to repeat what they have done. PLEASE correct me if i am wrong, i am guesstimating |
| crafty1 | 09-25-2012 11:35 AM | You can get away with using the same name and date of birth if its like a very common name i.e Smith, Patel etc but they might ask for documents.
You might find it harder if its a unique name that is not common.
In relation to docs, its not advisable to send the same ones as you are more likely to get your account closed.
And FYI Paypal is a law to themselves and don't think they will provide you with any information that you request............Don't know if it has been done |

| Exactly., imo |
| webprojectuk | 09-26-2012 05:56 AM | I agree - I don't think it makes any difference if your name is common or not. As long as they have not seen the docs then it would be impossible for them to make the link. They will try, but without enough evidence then they can't keep kicking off everyone with the same name and dob. It does happen! |
| GreenBean | 09-26-2012 06:21 AM | Please do yourself a favour and wake up.
Following your suppositions about re-using names & DOB will not be good long term for the purpose of having a working account.
You are underestimating ebay/paypal. I suspect it is because you want to believe you know best.
What is your actual knowledge of the system? How many accounts have you made for ebay ? How many suspended accounts have you had?
Forum has been party to info given by hundreds of users, in fact thousands of users.
A break down, a break up, an analysis of suspended accounts has been made.
It has been found that information used (again) can cause suspension by way of linking.
Sadly you tried to use 'logically' as part of your argument. We know that ebay has little logic. We know that ebay will ban accounts because ebay wants to do just that.
From intensive studies of the process, I lean more to the premise should an account be marked, it will be suspended. Yes, they will suspend without what appears to be enough evidence.
Why? Because that's how ebay plays the game.:shhh: |

| No, it's called a discussion and views are raised without insulting anyone's intelligence. Quote:

| - Same as any system which uses database to store data. The date can be manipulated using automated programs which are expanded as the new information comes available in order to stop suspended users returning to use Ebay or PayPal.
However, neither ebay or paypal are run by the government secret agency so, I really don't think they have state of the art tracking devices attached to each individuals.
Also, I know ebay and paypal to be a business which aims to make a profit, and like any large organisation they are required to increases these profits each year. So, it's in their interest to attract new sellers to the site, and increase the sales of the already established sellers.
Therefore, they might link John Smith, born on the 9th of Sep 1985 to another 1000s John smiths in the same country, with the same date of birth but it would not be in their interest to ban all of them. As if this is true then I am really sorry for all the John Smiths being born today, as they are banned from Ebay already before they even started to walk. Quote:

| Fair point, and I agree that ebay don't always have a fair way of judging accounts. Like in my other post on a different thread I have stated that Amazon do listen to their sellers while ebay customer support does need to be improved massively. |
| GreenBean | 09-27-2012 07:54 AM | Make me a coffee too.
I have to go break your post into quotes..... noone will read it otherwise.
Forget getting a crush on AMAZON. It's not the wonderful place it appears.
Have you not read of the accounts on that platform being deleted with little to no communication?
Keep an open mind about the selling platforms.
Never forget they can be evil:mad: |

But at the moment most of turnover comes from their platforms. Also, I would like to point out that we have out auction platform which we developed once we run into problems. Most of our customers from Ebay followed us to our new site. No DSR to worry about, but we have the same problem of kicking off buyers as ebay have with sellers. |
I'd appreciate some coffee as well while your at it. :D |

Same name and DOB as a previous banned account = autolinkage for both Ebay and Paypal.
Very slight variation of name and same DOB as a previous banned = good chance of linkage on Paypal. The bots can pick this up, I'm 99% sure.
They will also take location in consideration, account activity, items listed, etc. after the bots flag your account and you get a manual review. |
Ama zon is completely different beast - first master eb/pp then get on to the other platform | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:19 AM. | |
