I don't know where your confusion stemps from. I made no mention of UK accounts, only US. So US.

No I have not seen that on accounts I have created. The last account I created was a week and a half ago so it could be a new implentation.

Most likely they are trying to save money. Instead of sending $0.30 to every new bank account might as well use the existing phone system to verify users.

it is probably creating an accounting nightmare to deal with these small transactions, it would make sense

I should point out that this is new method is optional, on accounts where it is available; the other two older methods (instant confirm through online banking and the 2-3 day snail method) are still there to use.

This has happened B4 with this particular bank.

Bit of a dodgy kipper for paypal success. (Although I suspect you would know that).

I don't like this idea, it sounds very insecure. Imagine someone who has gotten a hold of your bank account number and can easily steal money out of it using this method

Agree with you BiN - hopefully a secondary measure is in place
