Phonecall from PayPal worried about main stealth!

I recently decided that I have way too much stuff and wanted to list some things I don't use anymore (old consoles etc).
I sold 3 items for a total of around £700, posted with a tracking number, express delievery etc signature the standard.
Anyway everything was going fine, then about 5 minutes ago I got a phonecall from PayPal on '003534..' a number something like this.
The gentlemen from paypal said he wanted to ask questions about my account and if i was a business. I explained that I am just selling some home stuff and he said, if needed to could you provide invoices for those goods..I was like well yeah I could. Then he said oh okay thats fine, I was just checking from your recent activity..(i withdrew about 500 of the money left 200 in)..am i on the way to being limited? I cant really think why he called me? I mean the only thing I can think is..perhaps because i dont sell on ebay normally or ever and then bang i started trading on ebay i am now.. it's raised alarms..? It's a fully verified account 1 year of age..

Probably just a routine check based on what you are selling, it happens at this time of year more than any other on a category that is regularly abused by both sellers and buyers alike.

The account is probably ok for now but is obviously being monitored. I would avoid listing any more 'risky' items for a while.

nothing bad, let it cool down a bit and it will be fine. Unless there is problems with the buyers then it is a different story!

moneyhustler88 12-06-2012 01:57 PM

I forgot to mention, the guy also said 'I want to make you aware of our ebay selling policy' and i was like yeah only post to a regestered paypal address.
he was like yeah that right..

Then I realised that perhaps they wanted to check up on me, because one of the sellers wanted to do the transaction outside of ebay so i sent him a paypal invoice as i said i won't do it without paypal.
which now makes sense to if he asked if i could provide invoices perhaps? I keep now looking back at the account and not had any limitation yet.

so fingers crossed he is not going to limit it.
And no all my items were really detailed, 28mp photos so i expect no disputes.

Where e/b buyers are concerned always expect the unexpected. :argue:

Same applies to e/b and p/p. :thumb:

thanks mate

You are lucky that you didn't get limited... whenever they used to call me (which they don't anymore), it was to ask me for all the ID/invoice BS and limit me.

newjerseymax 12-06-2012 09:18 PM

You probably didnt get limited because you answered the call. :thumb:

i agree and the call was probally because you sold that one item by invoice outside ebay, either that or all the new activity but i think its the invoice thing.

moneyhustler88 12-07-2012 02:54 PM

Yes I sold an item by invoice, maybe they knew it was from eBay. Maybe they didn't who knows..but the guy was weird..he started out all defensive and questioning me..and I was just as cool as the Fonz..then he was all nice towards the end like saying do you know about the seller protection scheme lol. He said to me are you a business or normal guy? I was like normal guy am just clearing out a few things lol, which I am in fairness, although I may transcend to a business..but yeah perhaps i didn't get limited because i answered..who knows..lucky i did answer..

NoneOther 12-07-2012 05:25 PM

I would put money on it they knew.

Take care on this account, you won't get lucky a second time.

What does the paypal number begin with? Same question for ebay too.

Elijah 12-10-2012 04:45 AM

I got a call a few days back asking me whether I authorised a £1200 eBay "purchase" on a new buyer account, which was flagged as soon as it was sent for review. It was an 01 number IIRC and the woman sounded American... I told her that yes I did authorise it and she said that it was all good and completed the review.

Thank God that I had decided to put a functioning number on that account.

This is Dublin

The 01202 area code is Bournemouth, but the full number has too many digits to be a UK number i.e 01202 9357733

Not sure e/b or p/p have offices in that area but you never know.
