Quickest way to open a basic account...

Hi guys,

when to open a basic account today at Co-Op (cashminder), only to be told that it could take up to 10 working days before being approved, and this was completely normal procedure.

Then I went to Halifax to ask how long it takes to open a basic 'EasyCash' account, and was told that it cannot be done in branch, and had to be done online or by post, and that too can take some time.

Similar story, when I popped into Sanander, and was told the 'Basic' account cant be done in branch.

Can anyone tell me a bank, that will issue basic accounts (suitable for stealth) in branch on the spot for 'NEW' customers? Or a bank who opens basic account faster than 10 working days for NEW customers?

Just do them online first then pop to the bank with ID .
The problem with Basic accounts is they do not make the bank any profit as a rule.
No overdraft or such and therefore no fees for the account owner to pay .
So they are about as popular to a banker as is a sexually transmitted disease .
So you will get very little help walking into a bank and asking for such account , some even deny they do them although most do .
As they were pushed onto banks when the government started closing post offices so our nice work shy benefits claimaints can obtain there wages every week from the government..
Rant over... so
Some online accounts you dont even have to go into the branch to produce ID as long as the data inputted ties up with electoral role and you have allready a bank card with someone else.

cheers for the help guys,

il be looking at other banks too as im just getting my credit rating higher, its kinda poor right now so once thats alright il be opening more accounts slowly. right now my option is to go for the basic accounts and this was my first one, also opened a post office online savers.

If your aim is to have a better credit rating, then ensure you go slowly as you make new bank accounts.

What I suggest is waiting a day or so, then get a new credit report.

Check exactly what is on it already. Double check what accounts you should open in the future to avoid getting markers.

Going slowly is the key here
