Selling Limits, What has happened here?

About 3 weeks ago one of my stealth accounts got limited to 5/500. This is the message I received:

Based on your account information and activity, it looks like user ID is associated with your account. This usually indicates that both accounts belong to the same person.

Because the other account is restricted or otherwise not meeting minimum seller standards, we've changed the amount you can list on eBay.

As you can see from the message above, they left out the user name the account was associated with. I believe they did this because there wasn't one. I bought this account here on the forums, from a trusted seller and it wasn't linked to any other account. I used all proper stealth techniques, different IP, different User account, etc. Someone told me they do this when they see something about an account that they don't like but have no reason to suspend/limit it, so they come up with this bs excuse to be able to take action. They told me there's a thread here in the forums that's all about this subject. I had only listed a few Vintage hats, I can't see how that would be high risk.

Anyways, I saw the limitation and was bummed out about it. I had only had it a few days and there wasn't anything I had done to get it limited, so I figured the Seller would go ahead and replace it. I reported what had happened to the seller, he was very nice about it and told me he would get back to me. The next day I woke up and figured I'd sign in to check on the few items I did have listed and what I saw baffled me! The limitation of 5/500 was gone and it was now at 350/10,000! Before it had got limited it was only at 100/5000! Can someone tell me what might have happened here? I didn't call in or anything and neither did the seller. Did I just get lucky? Was it a mistake on their part so they made up for it by giving me even higher limits than before? I'm still baffled by this, all the horror stories I've heard and even been through, I can't imagine what has happened here. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I now have over 50 positive feedbacks on this account and it's going strong with no problems.

Sometimes it is a ploy to get you to take the bait but you have no choice.
They have total control.

You have either been linked in some way or the accounts got linked through a customer, pictures, write ups or something.

Do not take this wrong but we all make mistakes and you need to look back over what you are doing from start to finish because something you did got them linked.

I understand where you're coming from and yes, we do all make mistakes, but I'm 100% positive I followed all stealth procedures to a tee. If they "legitimately" linked me, then why was there no name where the name of the suspended account should have been in the message they sent? Why was my account limits raised to 350/10,000 after being "supposedly" linked to a suspended account, when the original limits were only 100/5000? Not even a day later the limits were raised and I didn't call or anything. I'm not sure what happened here and I'm open to all suggestions but please, before saying, "you were linked", read my full original post, then make that decision.

Even a Trusted Seller here on the forums told me they falsely link you to a suspended account when they see something about an account that they don't like but have no reason to suspend/limit it, so they come up with this bs excuse to be able to take action. They told me there's a thread here in the forums that's all about this subject. I'm sure someone has seen that thread.

I'll admit, I did sign to another one of my stealth accounts with that accounts IP address, but that was after this all happened, so that couldn't have been the reason. Has something like this happened to anyone else? I'm just trying to figure out what went "right" in this situation.

Have you seen the thread you keep talking about? Try to find it to share since you are interested in it.

Am aware of cases in the past 15 months where ebay pulled this stunt.

Has more serious issues however. Accounts in question were created & sold on.

One account stayed permanently down. Other is rarely used because of this ax hanging over its head.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't seen this thread but I don't believe this seller would lie to me about it. I'll try to find it if I can, if I do I'll post it here and quote you so you and others can see it. Any idea why my limits were raised to higher than original without a call or anything? If it was really linked to a suspended account, wouldn't they have suspended it or at least kept the limits at 5/500?
