8 bank accounts gone in 1 day!

As the title says, I've just had 8 bank accounts shut down. 4 with RBS, 4 with Natwest. 2 from each were linked to stealth accounts (though 1 of those was in my proper name). I'm not sure why they've closed them down, but I'm fairly sure it's to do with opening 3 accounts within the space of a month. Then again, it might be because money's coming from PayPal under a different name.

Slightly annoyed about this. I'm sure Elijah has had the same thing happen to him recently with Natwest.

So, if you're planning on opening several accounts with either of those providers, don't open 3 within the space of a month!

Before you do a single other thing, obtain a copy of your credit report at once.

You need to check the specifics of any markers. There may be an overflow to future credit.

Yes, Elijah did have issues.

Did you open multiple current accounts in say a 5 week period?:nono:

I'll refrain from growling.

they were all basic accounts. not bothering with a credit report, as I know my credit is appalling. opened 3 on each in the space of a month. i'll know not to do that again!

I'm so sorry this happened.

Deep breath, regroup and try again.

8 accounts in one day. :fight:

I would need to be hospitalized.

SimpleX 01-09-2013 08:57 AM

Wow 8 in one day! I would still try and find out the actual reason why they closed all at the same time.

Did you use these accounts normally? ie set up small direct debits, make some basic card purchases etc etc??

i had a similar thing before xmas

there is a thread about it

dont panic yet

read the thread :thumb:

8 in one day? I would commit sucide lol. Mate why don't you set up a plan..the first being stay away from Natwest & RBS (who are the same bank anyway) they (1) are the worst bank i've ever dealt with in my life (2) on these forums have a history of problems..

Your accounts shouldn't be getting linked if you read the threads on here, use the search button :thumb: and of course..use the stealth guide!

Too many too quickly with any bank will draw attention.

As I've said before they have a legal obligation to monitor accounts for money laundering and as folks are finding out they will take action immediately if anything looks amiss.

Open accounts only when you REALLY need them and spread them around ALL the banks, 8 with one banking group in a short period is asking for trouble.

Most important of all is use the account like it was meant to be used , pay bills, set up SO & DD's, act like a real person and you won'y get any issues. If all the account does is receive money from p/p in a mismatched name it looks bad to the bank.

....or do like the mob and start your own bank.

You needed to get 1 a day, wait 3-5 days and then another one.

Repeat until you have a few more and do not overdo it.

You opened too many too fast and drew the flags.

For me I opened a savings at one bank on Monday. Friday I opened a new checking at another bank. Bankers says I see that you opened a new account at xyz bank, I surely would have liked the opportunity to have your business here.

Info flows around and someone saw something.

Are you saying banks know what other banks you have?

Natwest has had issues.

Not noticed anything for RBS.

I do not know what the system name is but banks can look and see if you have opened any accounts recently.
Dont know how far back they can go but they can see that you opened a checking or savings recently.

Yes. A bank officer could key in any personal info and discover whatever they wanted.

Worse, they could make a phone call to an associate at another bank & get info. This could all be done without the approval of a client.

Happens on a daily basis. Not limited to the USA either.

They could also do it at two levels, officially and unofficially.

Information Highway is not so secure that this does not happen.
