Be Careful of RBS Bank
 

I opened a RBS account roughly 3 months ago.
This was the basic account with a card.

I haven't used it until last week when i logged in and created a Instant Savings Account and transferred about £800 to this account.

The next day(Friday) when i tried to log into my internet banking my customer number had been disabled.
So i called RBS and they said, its just a security check and i should call the fraud department, but don't worry you can still withdraw your funds from the cashpoint/ATM.

So i made a special trip into town to withdraw from the cash point, as alarm bells were going off in my head, which i was right, i was unable to withdraw from the cashpoint.

I phoned RBS back again and told them what i thought of them and there service, and i eventually had the Fraud Department Manager & Customer Service manager helping me, and it seemed as though the block on my account was so high that none of them could overide it.
They also couldn't see any notes as to why this would happen on my account etc..

Long story short, I was supposed to have all accounts active and receive a call from the Fraud Manger 9am sharp today
(which surprise surprise didn't happen) so i telephoned them and the told me that because my 3 month old account is new and i opened a savings account, my account was shut down as RBS are cracking down on the accounts that open savings accounts as they receive a lot of money into savings accounts in different names.
Funny thing is though, i never had a chance to use any of mine.
Now i have to fight to get my funds out of this account..

So be careful when transferring stealth from RBS! They are ruthless!!

Just like Natwest. They are both the most trigger happy banks around, and unsurprisingly they both belong to the same group. Which means when you get banned from one, you get banned form the others as well.

Ulster Bank belongs to the same group as well and it's probably the same. So such a disaster could be 2 or 3 times worse than it initially seems.

I am told Halifax and LLoyds also belong to the same as RBS and Natwest.

Halifax and Lloyds are not owned by RBS Group

What about building societys

Noneother is right..Natwest and RBS are owned by the same but not Halifax. why anyone would bank with rbs or nattiest is beyond me anyway. Their customer service is terrible

They do do it a lot. Natwest and RBS are the worst banks ever. I had my nattiest account closed because i wouldn't get my wages paid in there. Ridiculous

Halifax and Lloyds are part of the Bank of Scotland group (BOS), not to be confused with Royal Bank of Scotland group (RBS).

RBS Group is my main bank of choice and I have never ever had any issues with any of my accounts.

As I've said before a lot has to do with how the accounts are actually used. If you are being seen to conduct your affairs in a 'normal' way you should never have any problems.

Use your accounts to pay bills, set up DD's and SO's don't just let it sit there receiving funds from p/p in a mismatched name and then transfer to another account, that just smacks of 'funny business' as far as a bank is concerned.

LOL i know and understand exactly what you are saying, but i hadnt even used the account yet and they started treated me like a criminal. But i fought my case and stood my ground and today they re-opened my account and gave me £180 compensation for all the stress :clap:

Whilst I agree with you in principle, I've been doing this very thing on an RBS account for over three years without issue.

I think with RBS accounts they are still very much managed in branch, rather than centrally like Santander for example. What goes in one branch may not be acceptable in another. Just a thought. . .

agree with ebayorbust on this one. When I had a natwest account in the north of england was death with diff to when i lived in the east...branch upbringing and style
