If you don't want to give your SSN go to mycorporation.com or legalzoom.com and open an LLC. The nice part is if you have a few strong accounts with a lot of feedback you can open a few LLC and here you are, bingo:)

I did have this happen to me late last year. I hit like 18.9 mid December. The PayPal account was reinstated mid Jan I am assuming right when they sent out the 1099ks.

jackson2234 03-18-2013 11:15 PM

So i need to upgrade to a paypal Business account to use a LLC or EIN?

hapajenn1 03-27-2013 11:39 PM

^good question, does the PP need to be upgraded to a Business Account PP in order to enter LLC or EIN (instead of SSN)?

jackson2234 03-29-2013 10:02 AM

I am sure you would have to upgrade to a business account in order to use an EIN since it is an "Employer Identification Number".

As far as those paranoid people saying "Do you want forigners to have access to your SSN?" Get over it, when I worked at verizon there were plenty of dregs of society that I worked with that had access to SSNs etc. Your information is already out there and is secured on systems that accept applicants off the street with a pulse and the ability to stay awake for more than 8 hours at a time as the basic requirments. Your information can be compromised easily as it is and by people that can use the information.

So. Give them your SSN if you want to be able to sell on the account. If you fill out information for an EIN the IRS will still know who you are. The benefit of using an EIN w/ paypal is that PAYPAL and EBAY can't identify you by your EIN or SSN, so they don't link.

I really get the impression that you are really trying to avoid paying taxes all together. I don't know what you sell, but considering the content of this site, I'm sure that most of these people here have accounts with dhgate and ali express.

So if you are one of those that has one of those accounts, you are making good money and should at least pay the taxes on what you are selling. The intent of all of these "suspension" sites is to show you how to avoid being linked by ebay/paypal or amazon. It's not here to show you how to avoid paying taxes.

If I am wrong, then I apologize. Keep in mind, although paypal and ebay won't link an SSN to an EIN, the IRS can. If eBay has both on two different accounts and decides to provide the info to the IRS willingly instead of waiting to meet the required threshold, the IRS will know both accounts belong to you and tax you accordingly.

this "potential" to hit 20k is such a pita, if the law is 200/20k then shouldnt they ask for it when you hit that or are about to hit that, not when you are 25% of the way there

HurricaneHuntr 04-01-2013 01:18 PM

Received 1 today, added an EIN. but i don't think i should of. This account sold 82 items last month for a grand total of $500

Will say again - on previous posts - pp can limit you based on PROJECTION estimates...so you will get hit way before 20k if you are selling at accelerated speeds.

Why do you not think you should of added an EIN?

jackson2234 04-05-2013 02:30 PM

Is giving paypal your SSN not a good idea if you have bad credit?

Can they close your paypal for bad credit alone?

Can they credit check an EIN?

It's not a stealth its my real acct with all real info i had for 10 years....

rsot 04-05-2013 03:51 PM

I would never give them information that they can KEEP on you

paypal keeps records of everything...i doubt they close your account for bad credit alone.

BUT if you give SSN, you can never use it again with pp

AND, if you go delinquent...your credit history can be affected.

Few examples of why not to give them that powerful info

GreenBean 04-06-2013 12:22 AM

Sighs. Forum was never designed to give tax advice.

Inaccurate info get dished out like lollies.

It's the sellers' duty to arrange their own tax issues. Your business plan is not known and we do not want to know it either.

Bear that in mind instead of posting when your info is merely an opinion. An opinion could get a fellow user in trouble with paypal and IRS.

It is not such a wise idea to supply an SSN to paypal.

Since their ability to use a credit score came to be, some users here have had their paypal accounts closed down.

The bottom line reason was the credit score was not high enough to let paypal consider doing business with that account . These accounts were what I would describe as going smoothly. No real or great risk as a business. They became victim to the paypal snitch game.

Brings me to the point of what paypal will do and what paypal might not do.
Users can certainly create EINs to attach to existing accounts.
But there is also a chance paypal may ask for an SSN. That is a risk.

paypal will check whatever it wants to check if an account is flagged. Pointless to say this will not happen. It does.
Users getting the tax ID request are having success with the EIN going on file. It certainly allows that seller to go on doing business and accessing funds.

where there is a (potential) credit issue, careful establishment of the EIN may preclude grief with paypal.
I hope this helps you, Jackson.
:peace:

Here is the REAL Deal all BULL$^IT Aside
An EIN and an SSN are basically the SAME thing, it is a Number that Identifies you to the IRS, the ONLY Way that you can get an EIN from the IRS is if you have a SSN

Now, as for Paypal, it is ALWAYS Best to give Paypal an EIN because there is ONLY 1 reason that this Number Exists, and that is to PAY the IRS Tax Money so NO ONE would ever want to Steal your EIN, Unless they want to pay YOUR Taxes, with an SSN an Idenity theif can access your credit, and then some, that is the PRIMARY Reason to hang on to your SSN

As for Needing and LLC to Obtain an EIN, That is a MYTH

As for Having to PAY a fee for an EIN,,,BULL$^IT, They are Free, as many as you want, got to the IRS Website and SEARCH

As for Upgrading Your Paypal account to a Business,,,EASY as Hell,,,3 SIMPLE Steps, ANY Retard can do it,,,,,STONED AND DRUNK,,,

So Go out get yourself a Damm EIN,,,Upgrade your Paypal account and Spare us all this BULL$h^T

If I seen a little HOT,,,It is because I have Posted this info MANY TIMES, but NO ONE wants to do a little Research,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Here Endeth the Lesson,,,,

Thank you very much one last question...

When Upgrading my Paypal account to a Business what is the difference in going with Individual vs Sole Proprietorship?

The PP acct is only for me so would partnership, corporation or non profit even be aan option?

It all depends on what reason you file with the iRS for wanting an EIN, when you go to the IRS website to apply for an EIN you will see what I mean, you set up you Paypal accordingly

The only reason i'm trying to get the EIN is so i dont have to use my SSN on paypal. So i'm not sure if Individual or Sole Proprietorship is the better option.

It really depends on you, what your specific situation is, How old you are, do you have a Job, are you a Naturalized Citizen, are you Married, do you have other companies, and Other such Questions,,, NO ONE who does Not Know you can tell you what is best for you, consult with an Accountant, a Family Member, someone you Knows you, it is SIMPLE Believe me

I was born in America.

I'm 30 and work off and on but right now i'm getting unemployment.

Is there any threads here where i can learn about Individual vs Sole Proprietorship so i can get this EIN and start selling on Ebay again?

The final step for me at this point is upgrading my Paypal to a Business account so i can use an EIN and receive money with PP again.

If I recall correctly, DBA with EIN is more of a risk that they will still request SSN than LLC with EIN.
