OH dear....Forgot to switch off my router and use dongle for stealth

Well, Im not surprised it has eventually happened, I use my router in the house for my legit ebay account and my stealths I have seperate users and a dongle but I just logged out of my legit account, plugged my dongle in but got side tracked and when I came back, I forgot to turn off my router and turn on my dongle, therefore using a stealth account with my router i.p which is linked to my main ebay account.

Gutted, I suppose I am now just waiting for that dreaded message off ebay suspending both of my accounts, not worried about my stealth my my main account is 100% fb and I use it for buying aswel as selling.

Wish I could just go back and change what I have done! Gutted!

1 time is unlikely to be the end of your accounts - take measures to AVOID repetitions.

Thanks rsot, I hope so, woke up this morning and both accounts still fine. Fingers crossed it stays that way!!

You'll be fine, just don't do it again.

Majority of users who have done this have not had issues.

Be gentle on yourself now.

But be much more careful in future.

Easy mistake to make, If you get a 2nd computer 1 for personal with your router wired & 1 just for EB but with your dongle you'll never get this problem

moneyhustler88 04-05-2013 11:51 AM

its a mistake that happens to the best of us at times. Just make sure to keep it safe. Me myself i always have wifi turned off and look at which user account..and what kind of internet i want to use (tether, iPad's etc etc) and then only connect any sort of internet. That way I don't have any problems because theres no wifi turned on when the computers switched on and i click whatever username

I've had this happen to me about 3 months ago and was petrified when I noticed it. But the account is still going strong.

moneyhustler88 04-05-2013 05:47 PM

Just learn from it mate

None of us are perfect Keithy. We all make that mistake. Put a note in your spreadsheet or whatever you use to organize your info. If that account goes down, you'll have an idea why.

Personally, I make that mistake about once every few months. I'll switch to the wrong mac address, or log into the wrong windows user account. It happens, especially when we're busy and trying to juggle a ton of stuff.

I have 100 active selling accounts and at times it gets confusing. You just have to take your time and be as methodical as possible.

With all that said. . .In all the times I've made that mistake, I don't think it's ever cost me. It's possible that paypal will only link the similar ips if you're considered high risk, and at that point, you're probably already limited as paypal hates high risk.

If you really feel bad...send me $50 and It will make you feel better..JK LOL
You will be fine my friend, it's happened to me a few times (scattered across 1 yr) and nothing happened. Just gotta make sure it don't repeat again.

If you do, your gonna have to send me $100! lol

Cheers guys, well you were all right, luckily nowt has happened with my accounts, i just need to be more careful in future!

GreenBean 04-08-2013 01:03 AM

All jokes aside, you must train yourself to be careful.

Takes practice but it reduces moments like these.

Make it 2nd nature.
