Block phone number when calling ebay/paypal UK
 

Can you hide you telephone number. When you call ebay / paypal ?

I always avoid telephoning them and this experience made me even more wary of calling them

I missed a telephone call on my free voip number that I had been using. for about 30 days. Thinking it was a customer I called it back using a land line assuming i'd hidden my land line by prefixing 141 (I 'm in the UK).
It turned out to be a collection agency chasing the person who had previously had this free voip number.
The agent told me he could see my hidden land line number on his display even though i'd put 141 in front and he told me what my hidden number was. While we chatted I asked if I could test their system with a mobile phone number. I called them using a virgin mobile number hidden again and my agents colleague answered and they confirmed my number back to me.

I don’t know how this is done but it made me consider that eBay / paypal may also be able to see your telephone number like this collection agency even if you think you have hidden it.

Ironically the free voip number was used to get all limits lifted with a paypal.account and the ebay account and is growing slowly steadilly.

Easiest solution to this is to use mobile sims for all your accounts and then there in no need to hide any numbers.

also wouldnt keep using that service if they re-use numbers, thats just asking for problems with ebay

From my experiance, Paypal/eBay doesn't link by the number that you called with. However, I always call using Skype since it the number it displays on Paypal's end is either unknown, or a totally random number. You can use blocked number too from your carrier, but sometimes it's not as anonymous as the area code and some digits of your phone number doesn't change

When you call a tollfree number from a landline or cellphone, your digits will show. For this reason, I also like using Skype. I havent called eB or pp much at all but when I have to...Skype is nice and does the trick
