tried buying MO at walmart today

I tried buying MO today at walmart and it was declined. This is really weird because i was able to do so just a few days ago and many times before. The amount was below my spending limit and as usual, the MO was purchase via debit card pin. It has always worked before but today it didn't. I then called pp and ask them how come this transaction didn't go through and they kindly replied that walmart is running the card as a cash advance and not a purchase. So i turned around and went back in line and tried again. The second time the card was declined again and i told the walmart staff that the bank is stating that you guys are running the card as a cash advance instead of debit and she said no, all she did was pressing the debit button on her end and the card got declined. I have purchased from this staff before so i'm sure she's not the problem.

I have sufficient money in the pp and don't know why this is happening. So is walmart changing their system in declining pp debit cards? Can someone else confirm this? Or if you have also used the card today or will be using it tomorrow or so, can you guys kindly reply to see if it worked for you guys or not? Thanks

Are you using a Paypal Debit Card?

sonnydonut 06-11-2013 10:18 PM

yes pp debit card w/ pin

jeffweico 06-11-2013 11:17 PM

I'm not sure what the problem is? If you have a PayPal debit card, it is attached to your real information, as they REQUIRE an SSN to get the debit card. Since you have the card and the pin, why not simply withdraw the money from an ATM?

Or am I missing something?

Try a different walmart. Maybe one in a different district. It is possible that the cashier is following some kind of protocol because some shady guy is buying too many money orders with a debit card.

Say the MO is for a couple of hundred dollars, maybe the OP is in an area where that's a bit too much money to carry?

Ease of use of the card. OP has done the method before.

Seems like a problem with the system swiping the pp card not the cashier Omgoozle

Paypal appears to be in disarray.

Quite a few issues on all the platforms :s

JFYI

Wal Mart and Paypal are having issues as a team.

Heard it directly from a wal mart rep who told me pp does not protect their interest so they have to do their own security when it comes to people using pp to pay for things.

When I asked, if someone pays with pp, what right do you have to begin a security check to see if pp has done their job? She said to protect our money because so many people buy something and file a pp dispute, pp gives them the money back and the customer seldom returns the item or the gift card etc.

So thanks to those who have ruined a good thing. It got abused and now wal mart has decided to ditch pp in many cases. ( note I said many cases, not all)

You will notice their e gift cards are now gone because people abused it.

Nice follow-up - could be predicted...it's sad but golden options will keep disappearing as they are abused

Sandy D 06-12-2013 11:24 AM

I knew this idea would not last as people get greedy and run like mad to abuse it so much it ends.

All good things come to an end sometimes that is why you need to have back up plans for everything you do.

Notice Amazon does not take PayPal. No sane business will. Yet there lots only take them.

Had (yet another bluidy) survey from paypal.

Asked something along the lines of would I like the idea of paypal being accepted as a payment method on amazon.

Outstanding idea that. NOT.

paypal is always trying to get its claws into everything.

People abuse the system and when that happens...they try to find a new thing to also abuse and so forth. That's just my opinion on this.

Amazon has its own Amazon Payment system so...makes sense not to accept PP

So, so true. It's an endless vicious cycle.

Wise, wise move by you.

As you know it is the paypal brain-washing that lets them trade as they do.

People are actually convinced they are OK.

I notice that a lot of desperate stores take paypal.

IE: Best Buy, Home depot, sears/kmart etc.

There is no real need for the big businesses to get involved in pps nonsense unless they are at risk of bankruptcy.

rsot 06-17-2013 02:33 PM

Ha Best buy and Home Depot classified as desperate...
